In an interview with Robi Domingo, Darren Espanto, and Edward Barber on iWant ASAP, BoybandPH member-turned-actor Joao Constancia, together with his “My Lockdown Romance” co-star Jameson Blake, reminded viewers that we should only be fragile or “marupok” with the right person – meaning, we should only show our soft spot with the right person.
Millennials and Gen Zs nowadays could definitely relate to their fun conversation as the term “marupok” has been prevalent among these generations. Joao and Jameson admitted that they were once marupok during the quarantine period.
"Dahil ako lang mag-isa sa condo, I guess, I tried to talk with some of my friends, tried to reconnect with them. I guess I became marupok din dahil I got to meet new people and got to talk to them for a while. Pero hanggang doon lang naman po," Joao shared.
Meanwhile, Jameson also agreed that he also once became “marupok” during the quarantine period. "I just remembered there was this time na I was talking with someone a girl, non-showbiz siya. May mga times na mag-uusap kami, conversations, tapos may mga time na hindi magre-reply. I'm like, 'okay baka busy.' After two days, I start the conversation ulit para mag-usap kami. I think sign din 'yon ng “marupok”, I guess," Jameson imparted.
“My Lockdown Romance” is a BL movie that revolves around the story of estranged friends Tom (Jameson) and Kendrick (Joao) who were able to communicate and reconnect once again virtually during the lockdown period after not being able to talk for quite a long time. But as they do video calls every night, they will also be able to rebuild their “lost” relationship, considering that they have a past.
For sure, many people out there can relate to Tom and Kendrick’s story as it depicts how some of us tend to get “marupok” despite after being “ghosted” for a long time.
