ASAP Natin ‘To started to bring in that humid, scorching summer feels, with hot takes on iconic hits through the years on its March 6 episode, “ASAP Generations.”
The opening number showed this generational throwback, with the entire lineup of ASAP performers dancing first to the groove of Van McCoy’s 1970s disco anthem “The Hustle,” before King of OPM Ogie Alcasid led a 1980s bop to the tune of The Breakfast Club’s “Rico Mambo” with Yeng Constantino, Kim Chiu, and Darren Espanto.
Another 80s chart-topper, Angela Clemmons’ “Give Me A Little More Time,” was then soulfully rendered by Kyla, Angela Ken, and Janine Berdin. Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla then welcomed a surge of 90s hits with Ace of Base’s “It’s A Beautiful Life” with Erik Santos and Elha Nympha.
Kapamilya young stars Francine Diaz, Karina Bautista, Krystal Brimner then sizzled on the dance floor with another 90s hit “Tootsee Roll” by 69 Boyz, together with Edward Barber and Ronnie Alonte. Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid then took the stage to perform her version of Britney Spears’ 2000s track “Ooops, I Did It Again” with Pinoy Big Brother Kumunity Season 10 Celebrity Edition housemates Anji Salvacion and Alexa Ilacad and the iDolls trio of Lucas Garcia, Matty Juniosa, and Enzo Almario.
Top Kapamilya female artists Maris Racal, Loisa Andalio, and Andrea Brillantes then showcased their impressive dancing skills as Brandon Beal’s “Twerk It Like Miley” from the early 2010s played. Then capping off the opening number is Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano performing his superb version of the BTS 2021 number 1 tune, “Permission to Dance” with Enchong Dee, Jeremy Glinoga, Sheena Belarmino, and AC Bonifacio.
P-pop sensations BGYO gave their ACEs fandom a rare treat as they marked their first anniversary since their official debut with a grand team-up with Gary V and Darren singing their hit song “Sabay.”
Another cross-generation collab followed as the OPM power couple of Regine and Ogie sang John Legend’s “All of Me” with the hottest emerging kilig love team of KDLex (Alexa Ilacad and KD Estrada).
A back-to-back rendition of the Moira dela Torre “hugot” songs “Malaya” and “Paubaya” was performed by a mix of veteran artists and new-gen singers. They included Zsa Zsa, Yeng, Kyla, Nyoy Volante, and Ice Seguerra singing with Anji, Angela, Jeremy, Diego Gutierrez, and PBB alums Benedix Ramos and Jordan Andrews.
P-pop girl group BINI then took the spotlight, ravishing with their singing and dancing skills, together with ASAP Queen of the Dancefloor Kim Chiu for the launch of a Chinese fast food chain’s “Halo Halo” summer campaign.
The New-Gen birit artists then gave an overwhelming, brilliant take on OPM rock ballads through the years. Sheena Belarmino first sang Rockstar’s “Ika’y Mahal Pa Rin” before Reiven Umali gave his rendition of Men Oppose’s “Kasalanan Ba?” Janine Berdin then took the stage to belt out the Neocolours’ “Kasalanan Ko Ba?” JM Yosures then crooned his version of Orient Pearl’s “Kasalanan” as Elha Nympha ended the stirring collection with Rockstar’s “Mahal Pa Rin Kita.”
Kapamilya dance hotties AC, Loisa, Francine, Maris, Edward, Ronnie, and Enchong then continued to show off their impeccable moves with their explosive performance of Missy Elliot’s “I’m Really Hot.”
Asia’s Soul Supreme KZ Tandingan then marked her upcoming birthday with a stellar, reverberating old-school hip-hop number with Gigi de Lana singing Blackstreet and Dr. Dre’s “No Diggity.”
ASAP Natin ‘To’s revered OPM icons then concluded the show with another monumental performance on “The Greatest Showdown” featuring the world’s most memorable love songs from the 1970s. With musical director Homer Flores on the piano and Rick Mercado on guitars, Gary V started things off with his rendition of Roberta Flack’s “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.” Acoustic great Nina then followed with her version of Florence Warner’s “Hello Love.”
Ogie then warmed hearts with his captivating performance of Helen Reddy’s “I Can’t Say Goodbye To You” before Zsa Zsa gave her divine interpretation of The Shirelles’ “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?”. Erik Santos would then a moving vocal delivery of Anne Murray’s “I Just Fall In Love Again,” with Regine capping the thrilling, superb throwback musical lineup with her stirring take on Maureen McGovern’s “We Could Have It All.”
