Hotspot: Regine shouts out to former co-stars, leading men in fun challenge

This coming hearts month is extra special because on Valentine’s Day, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid will be serenading us in her groundbreaking digital concert, “Freedom.”

Regardless of your age, gender, or even relationship status, you’re surely psyched to know what the beloved singer has prepared this year. Luckily, our reliable “Beshie ng Bayan” DJ Jhai Ho got to have a one-on-one interview with Regine and let us in on the details at #HotspotFBLiveExclusive. But before getting into the awaited concert, the two just had to start off with a quick chikahan sesh.

Given the #ThrowbackThursday vibes, Jhai Ho asked Regine to look back on how she started doing her make-up looks all on her own ― whether it’s for a quick TV appearance, photoshoot or even a whole concert night. The Kapamilya singer cited that it all began as she was starting out in showbusiness when getting make-up done in the parlor was really expensive for her. Other than that, she was living in Bulacan before and would have to travel all the way to Makati just to have her make-up done in the parlor. Because of those circumstances, our lovely artist decided that she just had to learn to do it on her own. She didn’t have classes or ask anyone to teach her, but instead, she closely watched make-up artists like Jerome Chang and Fanny Serrano do her and other artists’ make-up when she had the chance. Eventually, she was able to save up to buy her own equipment and practice on herself (and sometimes her siblings) until she got the hang of it and mastered it amazingly.

Fans watching live found this really inspiring and asked her tips for students and working professionals on how to look fresh and pretty. She’s got a short checklist for you ― red lipstick, cheek tint, eyebrow pencil, and powder. Once you got all that, you’re set. And if you want a little more glam, using an eyelash curler and little mascara will do. That’s solid advice because there is no one else who knows glam like Regine. Her concerts are exceptional proof of this which is why we’re thrilled to know what “pasabog” she’s got in store for “Freedom.”

“I’m really so involved with this concert ― as in from the repertoire to the clothes that I’m gonna be wearing,” Regine shares after recalling how she let others take the lead on planning her previous concerts. Now, she has reconnected with her vibrant self of being very hands-on with everything because she views this digital gig as a great opportunity for her to experiment and surprise her long-time and new fans with something unexpected. She didn’t give much away but she did hint that the songs she will be singing are a new style for her so she definitely went into lots of research and preparation for this concert. There will be lots of new songs and some old ones, but with an exciting twist. It is one of Regine’s hopes that the work behind “Freedom” and the concert itself will send the message to everyone that people can evolve and grow further.

As a veteran artist, Regine still recognizes that there is still a lot in store for her. The famous star has several people she continues to dream of collaborating with further, particularly the talented young singers today like the new Rise artist Gidget “Gigi” De Lana. She even adds, “Sa ASAP, natutuwa ako kasi, you know, I get to work with the younger generation, ‘yong younger artists natin na sobrang gagaling. They are so incredible.” On the variety show, she may get to work with singers like Angeline Quinto, Yeng Constantino, KZ Tandingan, Jed Madela, Erik Santos, Kyla, Moira, Morisette Amon and many more on a regular basis, but she looks forward to the day that they can collaborate on a concert. Now that’s something we’ll be on the look-out for.

As much as we want to know more about Regine’s Valentine’s digital concert “Freedom,” we don’t want to spoil it. DJ Jhai Ho ended the interview with a fun challenge of Regine giving amusing shout outs for actors such as Gerald Anderson, Jericho Rosales, Sam Milby, Robin Padilla, Aga Muhlach, Piolo Pascual, and of course a humorous, sweet message for her husband, Ogie Alcasid.

“Freedom” will be streaming worldwide on KTX.ph, TFC IPTV, and iWantTFC this February 14.
