Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez turned out to be our ultimate #CoupleGoals with how they’ve become sweeter and stronger as time goes by. And they went on to become one of the most well-loved celebrity couples in Philippine showbiz.
It was in 2003 when the news of their secret relationship spread like wildfire, and it was only in June 2007 when they finally confirmed their relationship through his “big revelation” in a local showbiz magazine.
He went on to further talk about their romance in one of his television interviews, disclosing how their connection actually started when he was just a budding singer and she was already one of the revered stars in the industry.
According to him, they met in the rehearsals of one of Dingdong Avanzado’s concert where he was a front act and Regine was a guest. He was completely mesmerized upon seeing her, since aside from being an exceptional performer, she is unmistakably gorgeous as well. They went on a group date with her father in tow, which made him fall in love with her deeper as he discovered her genuine personality off-the-stage.
However, their relationship didn’t push through that time as they treaded on different paths – with Ogie building a family with Australian beauty queen Michelle van Eimeren while Regine continuously soaring in the local entertainment scene.
His marriage with Michelle ended after more than a decade and, simultaneously, his impeded friendship with the Asia’s Songbird got rekindled when she joined their former network’s now-defunct variety show.
In one of her virtual media interviews in 2020, Regine recalled that it was during that time when everything started between them. He was the first person she looked for every time she arrived on the set because of how loquacious and fun-to-be-with he was. But it took a while before her romantic feelings for him developed.
“Matagal. Basta nga gano’n, parang he started calling me because we were just really friends. We had no intention of falling in love. We were just really good friends…Parang 'yong time na 'yon, ako na lang yata 'yong artista na walang cellphone. Noong nagkaroon ako ng cellphone, I think he’s one of the first persons I texted. I congratulated him, it was his concert. And then after that, we would have exchange na. Nagte-text na kami lagi. Sumunod doon 'yong tawagan na,” she fondly reminisced.
They became each other’s best friend and most favorite workmate, with him composing songs for her, which includes the all-time favorite karaoke and singing contest piece “Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka.” They eventually became a couple who was able to survive the rocky path of their relationship hand in hand. The two got married on December 22, 2010 at a beach resort in Nasugbu, Batangas and have a son named Nate.
Since he’s a great songwriter, Ogie never had a shortage of poignant words for his “Baba”, such as in one of his endearing posts dedicated to her on Instagram: “My wife, my anchor, my love, my biggest supporter, and my favorite singing partner (especially because she’s better than me). I love you more than the words can ever describe. The concert would be incomplete without you. Thank you for loving me. It’s more than I can even ask for.”
And we’re able to get a glimpse of their happy, strong, and admirable marriage through ASAP Natin ‘To, in which they’re among the hosts and performers every Sunday, as well as through their kulitan moments in It’s Showtime, wherein Ogie is one of the hosts while Regine randomly makes surprise appearances. Besides, they also share a few photos of them together on Instagram that never failed to reap thousands of likes and comments from their followers.
Now, they are going stronger and sweeter for almost 12 years as attested by their lovely snaps in this gallery!
