She might be a celebrity, but Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo is not exempted from heartbreaks. Throughout her fruitful and continuously soaring 17-year career in the local entertainment scene, she’s been linked to a few of her fellow artists.

But even before those guys showed up and promised to love her with all their heart for the rest of their lives, there’s already a man who’s been doing it ever since she was born – and he’s none other than her father, Delfin Geronimo.

Aside from being the firm wall that supports the family, Popshie Delfin also served as Sarah’s first personal trainer who guided her hone her vocal prowess when she was still a toddler. In their rare talk show appearance together on Magandang Buhay recently, he enthusiastically recalled that Sarah was only two years when he first discovered her potential to be a singer.

Having experienced joining in amateur singing contests in his younger years, he began training her by letting her listen to cassette tapes of various songs until she memorized the lyrics, the melody, and how it was sang by the original singer. He even submerged her in a drum filled with water in order to aid her widen her vocal range.

And all the love, support and guidance poured into her all paid off as Sarah turned out to become a well-rounded person, not to mention one of the most acclaimed and influential artists in the country at present. But despite being a superstar, Daddy Delfin denied that the 31-year-old multi-talented performer is her most favorite among his and Momshie Divine’s children as he treats and sees them equally. In return, Sarah disclosed that she and her sisters are actually daddy’s girls.

While he was showcasing his cooking skills in preparing two of the Popstar Royalty’s favorite viands – buttered garlic shrimp and Hawaiian chicken – the stern-looking yet loving dad revealed that whenever they have misunderstandings, he would simply cook her favorite adobong isda as his form of ‘panabla’ or way of showing his affection towards her.

As Daddy Delfin celebrated his birthday last October 2, the Magandang Buhay momshies surprised him with a birthday cake, to which he likened his birthday wish for himself, their family, and Sarah. Like the cake, he hopes that they would remain intact and be continuously guided by the undying “light”. Apart from that, he also wished for good health and for Sarah to remain humble amid the tumultuous success.

Aside from the fact that performing has been her passion, it was also the unwavering love and support she got from Popshie Delfin and the rest of their family that have indeed kept her going in the grueling and challenging world of show business.

If there’s one lesson that she learned from her dad that she would never, ever forget, it would be what he told her when she was still a kid – “Huwag mong hayaan na tinutulak ka. Magpakatatag ka!” – which still makes sense to her life even at present.
