“It was an unexpected friendship,” Darren Espanto described on Tonight with Boy Abunda. From performing on stage then goofing around backstage to just playing UNO, this four-man band of friends has been inching their way to becoming our new barkada goals. And finally, the former The Voice Kids Philippines finalist shared how it all began.
Darren recounted the spontaneous night that started off when he and Kyle Echarri had just finished a gig. The two decided to drop by Kyle’s place since it was almost his birthday. They didn’t stay long at the house though, because Darren then suggested they eat out instead to celebrate. To which Kyle offered to invite one of his close friends, Ylona Garcia, to tag along. After the unscheduled dinner, they went back to Kyle’s and thought why not have AC Bonifacio come over as well and practically have a small party?
That one night of bonding felt like a lifetime, now their small team is dubbed as the “Potato Squad.” “After that, sobrang clingy na kami sa isa’t isa,” Darren admitted. They discovered how much they enjoy hanging out all together and did so as often as twice a week. You’ll find them either eating out somewhere or watching a movie. Sometimes their group prefers chilling at someone’s place and just talk about anything under the sun from music to even parents. Well, almost anything under the sun. Darren revealed that one topic they steer clear from is their love, “awkward eh,” he explained.
Although they haven’t gotten as many chances to hang out lately because they’ve all found themselves amidst busy schedules. Still, every opportunity they get, the question is always: “Saan tayo susunod na pupunta?” The question now is how do we join their next adventure?
