Sarah Geronimo and Matteo Guidicelli’s colorful journey to happily ever after

“Sa hinahaba-haba man ng prusisyon, sa simbahan din ang tuloy.”

This popular Filipino adage is used to describe couples who have gone through a lot of hurdles before finally achieving the happily ever after they’ve been dreaming of. Just like what happened to newlyweds Matteo Guidicelli and Sarah Geronimo.

As we all know, their relationship has been marred with controversies ever since they started dating six years ago – from the consistent disapproval of her parents up to the other challenges that arose along the way. Nonetheless, they have remained strong and in love as they confronted those obstacles hand-in-hand and with unfaltering faith that everything would eventually turn out fine. And last February 20, the two had ultimately sealed their bond by tying the knot through an intimate Christian ceremony!

Their special day might have ended in a very unlikely way, but they did not let that spoil their exciting new life as Mr. and Mrs. Guidicelli. So now, let’s take a look back on their glorious journey to forever as we’ve witnessed on ASAP Natin ‘To!

Valentine’s Date

Despite being among the biggest names in the local entertainment scene, Matteo and Sarah have successfully kept their relationship low-key. Thus, everyone is definitely exhilarated each time they share something about their intimate moments.

As she and her fellow mainstays talked about how they spent their Valentine’s Day last year after their spectacular opening number, they surrounded the Popstar Royalty when it was already her turn to share. She animatedly recalled greeting her parents as soon as she woke up that day then having a dinner date with her “Mahal” by evening.

She was then caught off-guard when Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid suddenly asked her if they kissed, to which she gleefully responded “Meron naman po”.

November last year, the online world was set ablaze after Matteo posted two photos of him and Sarah, wherein Sarah, who was spotted wearing a shiny band on her left ring finger, was seen jestingly strangling him. He captioned it, “I love you my love, now and forever. (heart emoji)”, further stirring us that they already got engaged!

Three days after, the Popstar Royalty finally broke her silence about it live on the variety show as her co-hosts Billy Crawford, Luis Manzano, and Piolo Pascual congratulated and quizzed her regarding the details of their engagement. However, she apparently wanted to evade the question as she asked Billy about the married life instead. In the end, Luis resorted on tricking her to flash her posh ring.

And last March, ASAP Natin ‘To family rang in the month by showing their love and support for her as they commended her on the continuous success of her iconic hit “Tala” and on her 17th year anniversary in show business, and then congratulated her on her wedding to Matteo, a week after tying the knot through a secret Christian ceremony held in a church in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, last February 20.

Her kilig was indeed evident as her colleagues addressed her as “Mrs. Sarah Geronimo-Guidicelli” and uttered their poignant and witty greetings and best wishes for them. She ended the light-hearted conversation by saying, “Abot-abot lang po ‘yong pagpapasalamat sa lahat po ng sumusuporta, for your best wishes. Maraming salamat po.”

Post-wedding celebration

From being the one offering the song, it was now Sarah’s turn to be serenaded as her ASAP Natin ‘To family performed love hymns to celebrate her and Matteo’s union during the “The Greatest Showdown”. As she sat with the live audience, the program’s singing icons emerged onstage one-by-one as they sang their renditions of some of the classic love songs, just like Concert King Martin Nievera who crooned “I’ll Never Say Goodbye (The Promise)”.

These were after she belted out her mellifluous take on “When You Say Nothing At All”.

Inspiring others together

Along with other singer-songwriter sweethearts – Moira Dela Torre and Jason Hernandez, KZ Tandingan and TJ Monterde, and Yeng Constantino and Yan Asuncion – the newlyweds delighted us with their first-ever on-screen duet, as their way of uplifting the spirits of our Kapamilyas in light of the terrible crisis we’re currently in due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They definitely thrilled us with their heart-rending version of Calum Scott’s “You Are The Reason” as ASAP Natin ‘To was broadcast via zoom.

On that same episode, Sarah divulged how they weren’t able to fully celebrate Matteo’s birthday last March 26 because of harrowing situation we have right now. According to her, his heart truly breaks every time he hears and reads news about the plight of our less fortunate Kapamilyas and even made the complete expiration of the pandemic his ultimate birthday wish.

Indeed, Sarah and Matteo’s admirable affair is a great testament that amidst the obstacles that we have to go through with our partners, we can all power through those as long as we have the genuine love, unwavering patience, and unshakable faith to one another especially to God. These are the main ingredients for a strong and long-lasting relationship—their rock in their foundation for forever.
