Idol PH Season 2 finalists perform alongside OPM icons, singing champions in #ASAPgrandIDOLday

The ASAP Natin ‘To family once again treated us to another episode filled with world-class performances, courtesy of our ultimate Kapamilya idols in singing and dancing, in its latest episode last Sunday, September 25.

Tagged “#ASAPgrandIDOLday,” Enchong Dee, Kim Chiu, and Robi Domingo opened the episode with their energetic spiels and amusing banters. The opening number commenced with four members of a marching band, with ABS-CBN’s best singers, OPM icons, and singing champions belting out Carrie Underwood’s “The Champion” in unison, while Kim, Chie Filomeno, AC Bonifacio, Joao Constancia, Jameson Blake, Jin Macapagal, and Enchong provided an invigorating dance break.

Ogie Alcasid, Erik Santos, Martin Nievera, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Sheena Belarmino, Jason Dy, Klarisse de Guzman, and Darren Espanto returned to stage to continue singing the song. The Concert King, afterwards, introduced the second part of the musical number featuring some of the alumni of Idol Philippines Season 1 and the Top 12 hopefuls of its recently-concluded second season.

Queen of Hugot Songs Moira dela Torre began the American Idol-inspired production by singing “Do I Make You Proud” by Season 5 grand winner Taylor Hicks, along with Koro Jesu.

Performing Season 7 champion David Cook’s “Time Of My Life” were ASAP mainstays Ogie, Erik, Zsa Zsa, Klarisse, Martin, and Darren; Idol Philippines Season 1 alumni Lucas Garcia, Enzo Almario, FANA, Shanaia Gomez, and Gello Marquez; and Season 2 Top 12 Delly Cuales, Anthony Meneses, PJ Fabia, Drei Sugay, Misha de Leon, Nisha Bedaña, Trisha Gomez, Ann Raniel, Kice, and Bryan Chong.

The Asia’s Songbird then performed her rendition of Season 4 grand winner Carrie Underwood’s “Inside Your Heaven”, and also joined Zsa Zsa, Ogie, and Martin in their take on I Believe” by Season 3 champion Fantasia Barrino.

Regine then welcomed Idol Philippines Season 2 grand winner Khimo Gumatay to perform his winning piece “My Time” written by Jeremy Glinoga, who proudly watched him from the sidelines. The ASAP singers then got back onstage and reprised “The Champion”

Afterwards, she announced that the Idol Philippines Season 2 Top 12 are now officially part of the ASAP Natin ‘To family. They also greeted Khimo, Anji, and Robi as they celebrated their birthdays. The first gap ended in a serious note, with Robi reminding everyone to stay safe, especially those are directly hit by Super Typhoon Karding.

Unkabogable Star Vice Ganda made a surprise cameo appearance as Regine’s “personal assistant” while she, Martin, and Robi were delivering their spiels to open the second gap.

Dancefloor divas Calendar Vixen Chie and Dancefloor Princess AC once again set the dancefloor ablaze through their invigorating K-Pop-inspired production in the “” segment.

It was followed by the new “Rockoustic Heartthrobs” segment featuring KD Estrada and Idol Philippines Season 2 Top 5 finalist Kice, who truly made us kilig with their renditions of “Kiss” by Prince and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli.

When asked by Robi how he felt about his debut performance on the Sunday variety show, Kice conveyed, “Honestly, I’m super nervous talaga kasi, like you know, ‘yong mga taong nagsu-support din sa’kin [ay] nandito.” He then went on to tell how he regards KD as a “legend” and it’s a dream come true for him to share the stage with him.

KD, on the other hand, stated, “I just feel so fulfilling because I’ve been playing guitar since I was 13 and to be given this opportunity to perform for our Kapamilya with my guitar, intimate talaga ‘yong prod na ‘to e. This is my forte. Itoyong forte ko.”

We then probably found ourselves reminiscing as Zsa Zsa, Jason Dy, and Darren sang “Everything”, while Martin, Anji, and Alexa performed “Save The Last Dance For Me”, both by Canadian crooner Michael Buble.

After exhilarating us with her birthday prod last July, Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo treated us anew with another number for ASAP Natin ‘To “Sarah G Specials” segment, but this time, with her husband Matteo Guidicelli and American singer-songwriter Jim Brickman. The couple delighted us with their kilig rendition of “The Gift”, with the music icon on piano. Jim will be part of ASAP live show in Las Vegas, Nevada this coming November.

A’TINs, or ardent fans of SB19, surely rejoiced as the Pinoy pop boyband serenaded us with their love song “Hanggang Sa Huli” alongside Asia’s Songbird Regine, who requested for them to have a group hug after their performance.

Another group of talented lads won our hearts as ASAP’s very own “Dancefloor Hotties” Jameson, Jin, Joao, and Jeremy made us swoon us with their handsomeness and suave dance moves as they grooved to some of the award-winning trending dance hits of today. Joining them were AC, Sheena, and Enchong.

And speaking of trending, ASAP’s “Queen of the Dance Floor” Kim Chiu delivered a moving performance as she sang and danced to Troye Sivan’s “Angel Baby”. In line with this, she promoted her comeback film with on-and-off-screen sweetheart Xian Lim titled “Always,” which is slated to be shown in theaters soon.

Traditionally capping off each episode is “The Greatest Showdown” segment, wherein we witnessed OPM icons and New Gen Birit Idols their versions of some of the 90’s power duets.

First off were Martin and Lara Maigue, who got us singing along to “When You Tell Me That You Love Me” by Diana Ross and Westlife. Next were Klarisse and JM Yusores, who channeled their inner Whitney Houston and Barry Manilow through “I Believe In You and Me”. Zsa Zsa and Sam Mangubat then reminded us of Mariah Carey remarkable collab with Westlife through “Against All Odds”.

Ogie and Laine Duran gave their own take on “Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough” Patty Smyth and Don Henley, while Jed Madela and FANA impressed us with their interpretation of “I’m Your Angel” by Celine Dion and R. Kelly. Erik and Sheena then made us a bit sentimental with “Thank God I Found You” by Mariah Carey, Joe, and 98 Degrees.

Idol Philippines Season 2 champion Khimo had his debut in the well-loved segment as he performed “One Sweet Day” by Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey, opposite the Asia’s Songbird.
