ASAP Natin To #LakasASAP

ASAP Natin ‘To is relentlessly making our summer hotter, brighter, and more exciting through the enjoyable world-class performances it showcases every week. And the episode for last Sunday, May 1 is definitely not an exception.

Our favorite Sunday noontime habit kicked off the month of May with an invigorating opening number, with Martin Nievera and Robi Domingo welcoming us to another fun extravaganza with the ASAP Natin ‘To all-star ensemble, who were all cladded in denim attires, grooving to Pointer Sisters’ “I’m So Excited.”

It was followed by a slew of performances of other classic disco hits. Gary Valenciano and Jona did a duet of ABC’s “The Look of Love”; Ogie Alcasid, Sheena Belarmino, and Janine Gutierrez Joy’s “Touch by Touch”; Joao Constancia, Jin Macapagal, Vivoree Esclito, Krystal Brimner, and Karina Bautista put a Gen Z twist to Modern Talking’s “Brother Louie” as they danced to it; Enchong Dee, Jason Dy, and Erik Santos made our hearts flutter with their rendition of Robin Gibb’s “Boys Do Fall In Love”; Janine Berdin, Anji Salvacion, Alexa Ilacad, and Lara Maigue charmed us with their take on Sister Sledge’s “Frankie”; AC Bonifacio, Charlie Dizon, FANA, and iDolls made us dance with their version of Lisa Velez’s “Lost In Emotion”; Martin Nievera, Jeremy Glinoga, and Darren Espanto were truly heartthrobs as they sang Corey Hart’s “Sunglasses At Night”; Jayda Avanzado and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid Evelyn Thomas’ “High Energy”, to which Chie Filomeno and Andrea Brillantes danced to. They were eventually joined by the rest of the ASAP Natin ‘To artists, making us truly feel the rocketing energy brought by #LakasASAP!

After making us dance to our feet with the performances of classic disco hits, the New Gen Birit duets then offered us their heartfelt takes on some of the most popular lovesongs of this generation. Janine Berdin and Lara Maigue moved us with Nobita’s “Ikaw Lang”, JM Yosures and JM Dela Cerna pierced our souls with Arthur Nery’s “Pagsamo”, Sam Mangubat and Reiven Umali serenaded us with Adie “Paraluman”, while FANA and Sheena Berlarmino gave a different flavor to Zack Tabudlo’s “Pano”.

ABS-CBN’s talent arm Star Magic also launched its digital video magazine SLAY, which also serves as it way to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Some of its featured artists, dubbed “SLAY-mates” Missy Aquino, Alyssa Exala, Sharina Villena, ultimate SLAY-mate Thamara Alexandria, and first-ever SLAY covergirl Alexa Ilacad turned up the heat as they grooved to Sam Concepcion’s “Diwata”.  They were eventually joined by Zach Castaneda, Brent Manalo, Elmo Magalona, Eian Rances, Alora Sasam, Jane Oineza, Karina Bautista, Vivoree Esclito, and Andrea Brillantes.

Those who were in the M.U. stage with their special someone was surely able to relate to Jayda Avanzado’s “Malabong Usapan”, which she performed alongside Charlie Dizon and AC Bonifacio.

From one hugot song to another, Moira Dela Torre stirred us with her remarkable song number with veterans Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano, wherein they sang her song “Patawad, Paalam”.

From making our hearts flutter with their duets through the years, power couple Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez were able to show a different side of them with their latest invigorating collaboration titled “I L Y”, which they performed on the ASAP stage for the first time, with Enchong, Joao, and Jin as their back-up dancers.

Old and new breeds of ASAP Sessionistas then joined forces to serenade us with two old love songs. JM De Guzman and Nyoy Volante, along with heartthrobs KD Estrada, Jeremy Glinoga, Benedix Ramos, Jordan Andrews, and Diego Gutierrez swooned us with his rendition of The Beatles’ “I Will”. It was followed by Ice Seguerra’s version of Christopher Cross “Swept Away”, alongside Angela Ken, Anji Salvacion, Sam Cruz, and Shanaia Gomez. KD also celebrated his birthday!

Darren went back onstage and astonished us with his rendition of “Wait A Minute!” by Willow Smith, to which AC and Chie danced to. Janine Berdin and Sheena Belarmino then showcased their rapping skills as they joined Filipino-American breakout rapper EZ Mil in performing his monster hit “Panalo”.

The #LakasASAP episode capped with powerful song numbers from the musical variety show’s iconic singers, wherein they breathe new life to the classic OPM hits we love through the years in “The Greatest Showdown” segment.
