When stars get starstruck: Kapamilya artists’ unforgettable celebrity encounters

Can you imagine the stars getting starstruck too?

Everybody has a fanboy/fangirl in them that even celebrities aren’t immune to feeling ‘kilig’ when meeting other famous people. Here are your favorite Kapamilya artists sharing their first bigger-than-life encounter with a big star!

Andre Brouillette was excited to meet Enrique Gil when the latter visited Bahay Ni Kuya. The Hello World  host described Quen as easy to talk to and get along with. They were chatting that day like they’ve been friends forever.

Starring in the digital series “Pasabuy” was a big moment for Pinoy Big Brother Connect alum Gail Banawis, as well as meeting their director Xian Lim. She was thrilled to learn from Xian that Kim Chiu knows and talks about her. They also met back in the States and she mustered the confidence to exchange jokes with him. Another ex-PBB housemate Ella Cayabyab shared her memorable first meeting with PBB host Robi Domingo, who was very welcoming.

As a DJ, event host, and singer, Ana Ramsey is used to rubbing elbows with celebs. But only one had her gushing like no other. It’s none other than Sarah Geronimo, whom she first encountered in a dressing room during their guesting for Magandang Buhay. The super fan loved the Popstar Royalty more when she witnessed her down-to-earth attitude. “Sobrang starstruck talaga ako at hindi ako makapaniwala na ganun siya ka-humble at kabait.”

It’s always been every girl’s dream to hear Piolo Pascual call her name. Michelle Vito was surprised when the Ultimate Heartthrob approached her, “Sila pa ‘yung  ‘Uy, Michelle!’ Tapos ibe-beso ka nila. Ang sarap sa feeling na kilala ka rin ng mga malalaking aktor at aktres.”

Even seasoned actress Lotlot de Leon can relate to the thrill when a big star mentions her name. She looked back on her first time working with premier kontrabida Cherie Gil. “Mabanggit lang na ‘Hi, Lot!’ Makumusta ka lang nang ganun, sobrang nakakataba ng puso. ‘Ay kilala pala ako nito kahit papaano.’”

Same thing happens when meeting other veterans. “It’s always unforgettable to meet the legends of our industry because of what they have also shared with us as actors. Nakakamangha silang makasama,” shared Lotlot.

It truly sounds charismatic when a famous person calls you by your name. That’s why Jeremiah Lisbo was over the moon when Charo Santos remembered him after they first met for his audition. “Hindi lang naman ako ‘yung nag-audition that time. So nakakakilig na naaalala niya ‘yung name ko. At si Ma’am Charo ‘yun, ang dami niya ng experience sa acting at MMK.”

Just this October, the life story of Ralph Malibunas was featured in Maalaala Mo Kaya. That experience alone was already one for the books, let alone being interviewed by Charo. “Nanginginig po ako at naiiyak kasi dati napapanood ko lang po ‘yung ibang story sa MMK tapos ako na po ‘yung kinakausap niya. Sinasabi niya din ‘yung pangalan ko. Nakakatuwa at starstruck!”

When Miles Ocampo was still a child star, she had the privilege to work with a star-studded cast for the film “Sa’yo Lamang.” The ensemble cast included Lorna Tolentino, Christopher de Leon, Bea Alonzo, and Enchong Dee. Then-10-year-old Miles was thrilled and nervous.

During the story conference, her co-artists felt her anxiety so they made her feel comfortable by calling her ‘baby.’ Miles feels lucky to be working with the industry’s finest because she gets to experience how warm, supportive, and generous they are.

Miles added that growing up in the industry didn’t really take away her shyness. “Kahit lumaki na ako sa industriyang ito, sobrang introvert ako. Takot pa rin ako sa tao. Mukha lang loud yung personality ko pero sobrang matatakutin ako sa tao.” This is the reason why she’s easily starstruck.

Like most OPM newcomers, Gigi de Lana was weirdly speechless when she met Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez. She also has starstruck moments with Maymay Entrata, Edward Barber, and Robi Domingo.
