Ultimate Bida Star Ruth Paga relays her journey from humble beginnings to victory

Blessed with refreshing beauty and equipped with a never-say-die attitude, Ruth Paga took miles closer to her dreams by winning the Kapamilya online talent search “Bida Star: Gandang Naturally Fresh.” Let’s get to know more of the Kalinga Province native and all-out dreamer in this episode of Kapamilya Chat.

Ruth has her admirable story of rising from challenges. She was supposed to have a regular stint as a dancer but the pandemic happened. Then-jobless, Ruth went back home and ventured into vlogging. She had a strong online presence. Her ‘hugot’-filled shanghai-making video even went viral, thus the moniker “Shanghai Queen.”

Ruth grew up in a small community that has no power supply. Over the years, electricity was installed in their place so watching TV became her hobby. It then sparked the desire to be seen on the small screen one day, although she didn’t know what kind of job it would be.

“Sabi ko, ‘Ano bang tawag doon sa mga napapanood ko?’ Akala ko edited lang. Noong grade six, nag-retire si Papa. Medyo nakaluwag-luwag, lumipat kami ng city. Doon ko lang nalaman na artista pala ang tawag sa mga napapanood ko,” Ruth reminisced.

Kathryn Bernardo and the teleserye Mara Clara fanned her burning desire to be an actress. She looked at Kathryn as an inspiration.

When “Bida Star” knocked on her doors, she knew it was an opportunity of a lifetime. The journey was both challenging and fulfilling. It helped her learn acting and get to know herself better. There were things she thought she couldn’t do but she did. Most importantly, she had fun along the way.

Ruth was not exempted from rejections, like any other aspirant. But at the end of the day, the failures made than break her courage. She now understands that all those are preparations for her ultimate break.

So, to other dreamers, Ruth stressed that giving up is never an option. “Kung mapagod ka man, mag-rest ka pero huwag kang susuko. Ituloy mo pa rin ‘yung dreams mo. Tanim ka lang ng tanim ng mga dreams, goals, at prayers mo kasi hindi sabay ang panahon ng pagtatanim at pag-aani.”

The fresh-faced beauty wishes to work with idols Kathryn, Judy Ann Santos, and Joshua Garcia. She also dreams to play ‘kontrabida.’ And like most artists, to be slapped by Maricel Soriano is on her acting bucket list. “Baka ma-push pa lalo ang pagiging kontrabida ko kapag natikman ko ang sampal niya,” she said of the Diamond Star.

Since “Bida Star” is an online show, Ruth didn’t have to travel from Baguio to Manila. Her parents and family were very supportive of her decision. The victory didn’t change their family dynamics. Ruth quipped that she’s still in-charged of household chores – just goes to show that future success and stardom will never crumble her humility.
