The ultimate Noche Buena dishes for Kapamilya stars

The warmth of Filipino Christmas spirit couldn’t be completely felt without the traditional Noche Buena. Like all of us, Kapamilya stars would gather with their families and loved ones to enjoy some good moments over good food tonight. And here are the dishes that will definitely make it to their holiday spread:

Lechon – the centrepiece of Pinoy Christmas table! It’s the ultimate celebratory food for Andi Abaya, Kobie Brown, and Anthony Jennings. Kyle Echarri has a specific order; it has to be Lechon Cebu. He said roasted pigs from his hometown have outstanding flavors.

Preparing the lechon commonly includes coating the pig’s skin with seasonings, then stuffing it with herbs and spices depending on your taste or regional culinary practices. Lechon Cebu, for instance, is stuffed with bundles of lemongrass while Bacolod’s version includes batuan fruit among other aromatics.

As the tradition evolves, some regions put their own twist by stuffing the lechon with seafood. If the classic is too large for your celebration, you may try the smaller cochinillo or roasted suckling pig. FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano star Coco Martin said he has a yearly assignment to serve cochinillo on Christmas Eve.

Another Noche Buena MVP is the ham. It’s the best pick for TikTok content creator Esnyr Ranollo. “Hello, Heart” star Alyssa Muhlach also loves ham, especially when eaten as sandwich.

Queso de Bola is another star at the holiday dinner. A cheese lover, Janine Berdin would like to know what queso de bola tastes like. Her other Christmas favorite is eggnog, a type of drink made of egg, milk, and cream, sometimes with rum for added booze.

Some went for the classic spaghetti like Julia Montes. Singer-songwriter Cool Cat Ash likes its sweeter version. She quipped, “Buong week kang magsa-spaghetti.” Lol.

Daniela Stranner mentioned the top-rated lumpiang shanghai which is basically ground pork wrapped in spring roll.

The spread is made even more special when loaded with mom’s cooking. Nio Tria talked about his mom Cherry Pie Picache’s delish chicken galantina. The classic recipe is usually completely deboned chicken roasted and stuffed with chorizo, pork, carrots, olives, boiled eggs, and raisins.

For Lovi Poe, her mom’s kaldereta, a Pinoy meat stew recipe, brings back warm memories.

The other Gold Squad members also shared their answers. Francine Diaz picked the all-time favorite fruit salad while Andrea Brillantes went for baked oyster. Seth Fedelin’s family sticks to Pinoy meal courses including spaghetti, fried chicken, and the legendary lumpiang shanghai.

It’s all of the above for Vivoree Esclito but on top of the list are spaghetti, palabok, and fruit salad.  AC Bonifacio’s family loves exploring different recipes for Noche Buena and their recent theme was ‘shabu-shabu’ Christmas.

Have a meaningful Noche Buena, Kapamilya!
