ABS-CBN Ball has always been the most-anticipated event by everyone who wants to witness the regal beauty of their favorite Kapamilya artists all glammed up like princes and princesses during the special night.
And given the situations that we’re in at present, it’s obvious that we’re not going to expect any glitzy spectacle this year. So for now, let’s just revisit the fabulous and debonair looks of our beloved Kapamilya tandems through the years in this episode of Kapamilya Spotlight!
KathNiel
Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla have been each other’s dates to the Ball since 2012, where they won the Breakout Style Award. On the following year, they embodied their Teen King and Queen titles with her bedazzled gown and his three-piece checkered suit.
Adapting the Old Hollywood Glam theme in 2014, Kathryn wore a feathery frock, while Daniel completed his maroon tux with a black cane prop.
With their matching white ensembles in 2015, it wasn’t surprising when KathNiel snagged the Best Dressed Couple award that evening. How would they not get awarded for being the best dressed couple when they both looked elegant and sophisticated in white? Kathryn slayed in her Michael Cinco body-hugging peekaboo dress while Daniel wore a Joey Samson creation adorned with black corsage.
For 2016, the couple stepped on the Star Magic Ball red carpet in all-black, which was comparably more mature than their previous outfits.
As their series La Luna Sangre premiered on television in 2017, the two seemingly put a hint of fantasy in their respective ensembles via Kathryn’s embellished gown and Daniel’s plum velvet blazer. The King King Of Hearts must have really liked velvet as he wore a black velvet suit the next year, while Kathryn kept it simple yet classy by donning a white backless piece.
In their 8th Ball together, the couple paid homage to Philippine indigenous prints as they stuck by the Filipiniana theme.
LizQuen
Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil first attended the Ball together in 2014, prior to the premiere of Forevermore. And since then, the on-screen pair-turned-real-life couple have proven that they are indeed an epitome of royalty as well.
The Kapamilya actress truly looked like a queen in her glittering black tube fishtail gown made by Edwin Tan. Meanwhile, Enrique proved that he could rock his style well with all the details in his suit, made more dashing by his hair slicked back.
In 2015, the Dolce Amore leading lady came into the ball wearing a Michael Cinco creation. It was a blush pink ball gown that was embroidered all over and had a huge wide skirt fit for the red carpet, which she adorned with bejeweled clutch and drop earrings. Meanwhile, all eyes were also on her leading man as he wore an all-white Pepsi Herrera tuxedo and black trousers.
LizQuen went on a new level in 2016, as she was absolutely stunning in an embroidered dress and he matched it by accessorizing his tux with a glittering bowtie.
The couple continued to wow fans at the red carpet in 2017 when Liza wore an illusion gown with tarot card imagery, while Enrique kept it clean and effortless. They further topped their previous outfits in 2018 as Liza brought back the fringe and made it the trendy new hairstyle, while Enrique was a true rockstar chic in his leather pants and unbuttoned shirt. And last year, LizQuen both wore creations inspired by the details on barongs.
KimXi
You may not have realized it, but Kim Chiu and Xian Lim have been attending the Ball together since 2012 – the same as KathNiel! They won the Couple of the Night award on their first year together as Xian Lim wore a Pepsi Herrera suit and Kim wore an Edwin Tan frock.
The following year, the two truly looked like royalties as the Chinita Princess donned a white long-sleeved gown with silver lace and embroidery, while her prince opted for an oldie but goodie black and white tux.
After their romance-comedy flick “Bride for Rent” became a box-office hit, KimXi wowed us with their elegant ensemble in the Star Magic Ball 2014. Kim slayed her nude and black gown designed by Patricia Santos, while Xian looked stunning in a Francis Libiran suit.
2015 was all about the detail for the couple. Kim had an off-shouldered embroidered gown, while Xian seemingly stepped out of his usual style and wore printed pants. A year after, she mesmerized us with her fully sequined piece with a lace cape, which Xian complemented with her two buttoned black and white suit.
Kim went big for 2017 in a pink ball gown with silver glittery details. Thankfully, Xian, who was then wearing a double-breasted black and white tux, was there to stand by her side.
2018 was the year KimXi defined “matching”, as Kim wore a black ball gown with hand painted butterflies, while Xian wore a blue coat with flower details. And in the most recent Ball, Kim sashayed in a serpentine gown with barong details, while Xian had a textured coat accentuated by a golden neck piece.
LoiNie
Loisa Andalio and Ronnie Alonte both had their debut on the Star Magic Ball red carpet in 2017. Their first look was just a teaser of what’s to come from this modern prince and princess.
LoiNie went with effortlessly classy outfits in 2018 as Loisa looked elegant in a glittery piece, while Ronnie chose a classic black suit. For their third Ball together last year, Loisa wore a daring red gown with a low V neck and high slit that Ronnie complemented by donning a suit with barong details.
MayWard
Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber also made their first-ever Star Magic Ball appearance in 2017 and since then became one of the most-anticipated pairs on the annual shindig.
On their first year, she shone even more brightly with her glittering Mark Bumgarner ball gown, with her loveteam partner, who was then wearing a stylish black Paulo Lazaro suit, accompanying her.
The following year, Maymay stepped on the red carpet with a feathery dress that perfectly hugged her figure, while the bespectacled Edward looked dashing in a black and white double-breasted suit.
For 2019, acclaimed Filipino designer Furne One dressed the pair with dazzling ensembles inspired by the Manila Cathedral.
SethDrea
It might be their first time together at the Ball last year, but SethDrea didn’t fail to make heads turn. Andrea Brillantes flaunted her morena glow in a peach gown, while Seth Fedelin matched her with an embroidered cropped white barong.
KyCine
Another fresh love team to grace the red carpet in 2019 was KyCine. Francine Diaz and Kyle Echarri showed up in a black and pink ensemble which splendidly suited their age.
