It was another fun-filled episode for ABS-CBN Entertainment’s Hotspot as Pinoy Big Brother Otso alumni Sky Quizon, Lou Yanong, Kiara Takahashi, and Ashley del Mundo return to talk about their new year’s resolutions, their “Cast A Star” stint, their dream MMK role, and their ultimate acting idols. They were also able to exhibit their acting chops as they took on the “Scene Re-enactment Challenge”.
After their short kumustahan, host DJ Jhai Ho then asked them about their new year’s resolutions, to which each of them enthusiastically obliged. For Sky, it would be to take only positive energy and vibes from the environment and the people around him, as well as keep the “this too shall pass” mindset. Meanwhile, it would be to be more aware and take more care of her mental health for former teen housemate Ashley.
Kiara echoed the responses of Sky and Ashley by saying that she would also prioritize her mental health and be more in control of herself to attain peace of mind this year. As she imparted how lost she was last year, Lou would want to start again, be out there, and accept that it is what it is since it’s really impossible to change things.
The gregarious host also imparted his own new year’s resolution, which is to stop giving pressure and being harsh to himself, as well as to just have faith and believe to whatever’s in front of him and figure out what he can do about it. He emphasized the oft-quoted adage “trust the process,” too.
DJ Jhai Ho then veered their conversation to their stint in “Cast A Star”, a competition wherein Star Magic artists showcased their raw and innate acting prowess by performing one-act narratives video that were posted on the official Facebook page of Star Magic. Fans were given the chance to cast their votes for their favorite artist who they would want to star in an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya for its 30th anniversary.
Among the 50 talents who took part in the online contest, it was Sky who was hailed as the winner. Lou placed third, Kiara was fourth, while Ashley was fifth and the one who was bestowed the special “Fan Favorite Award.” PBB’s “Summa Cum Lau-Bae of Tarlac” recounted that he actually cried upon receiving the great news since he really worked hard and exerted her best effort for it. But more than winning, being able to tell a significant story about mental health and use his platform to raise awareness and inspire other people who go through the same plight as his character are the greatest prizes he has received from this feat.
“I’m just really excited to do it, so I can’t say what the story is about, but it is something na malapit sa puso ko and I think a lot of people would be able to relate. And doon nga ako excited sa mga natutunan ko in the process of ‘Cast A Star,’ doon sa pag-digest, pag-analyze ng mga monologues. And now it’s gonna be a script, I’ll be with people, to be able to react, tapos ‘yong to tell the story. Lalo na MMK, we are telling stories of people, mga totoong nangyari,” Sky enthused.
He continued, “I just can’t wait, I’m excited to receive the script, and as soon as I receive the entire script, I’ll memorize as I would always do. I would memorize, internalize, bubuhayin ko ‘yong character, kung sino ‘yong character na gagampanan ko. So, I’m just excited and it’s gonna be soon.”
The three ladies also shared their experiences and learnings during the contest, to which they were more excited rather than winning it. When asked what role they would want to portray in MMK, Ashley said that she would want her own story to be featured because she thinks that a lot of people could relate to her journey. Meanwhile, Lou wishes to depict stories about strong women, while Kiara would gladly accept any narrative given to her for she believes that every story is different and we can learn from those.
With regards to their ultimate acting idols, Sky expressed his huge admiration for John Lloyd Cruz. Lou was all praises to Jodi Sta. Maria, Kiara adores Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo, while Ashley recalled how fascinated she was of Julia Montes in her performance in the 2010 remake of Mara Clara.
DJ Jhai Ho then put their acting skills to the test via the “Scene Reenactment Challenge”, in which they had to redo and put their own spin to the remarkable scenes of Kapamilya actors in Star Cinema movies.
Ashley was the first one to take on the challenge, reenacting Liza Soberano’s iconic “Panget ba ako? Kapapalit-palit ba ko?” scene in the 2017 film “My Ex And Whys”. Kiara came next and was assigned Kathryn Bernardo’s character George in top-grossing 2018 flick “The Hows Of Us.” She was followed by Lou who astounded the host with her portrayal of Julia Barretto’s character Zoey in “I Love You Hater”. Sky was last, who impressed us with his rendition of Joshua Garcia’s notable dramatic scene in “Love You To The Stars And Back”.
