Sheryn Regis has a deep respect for the power of music, which especially at a time of a pandemic, helps her feel soothed, hopeful, happy, and entertained. The Crystal Voice of Asia hopes to do the same for her fans in an upcoming online concert titled “Love United.” Learn more about this musical treat in this episode of Kapamilya Chat.
Besides her repertoire and grand vocal prowess, Sheryn’s concert will boast an exciting line-up of guests, all of whom have prepared something fresh for the audiences. Rap artist EZ Mil is set to perform a new genre. Also in the show are TNT Boys Mackie Empuerto, Kiefer Sanchez, and Francis Concepcion – all grown-up with more powerful vocals; as well as Tawag ng Tanghalan alum Froilan Canlas.
In about twenty days leading to the concert, Sheryn diligently prepares without neglecting proper rest, which is vital in keeping her voice concert-ready. This isn’t her first time performing online, although the concert would be much, much spectacular than her usual livestream.
Sheryn, who used to be less techy, now learned to adapt with the new normal. Sometimes it feels strange to talk and sing without a live audience, or in front of a team dressed in full PPEs, but what matters is she has the platform. Besides, she can’t imagine a life void of music and performing. “Madali naman mag-adapt ang tao basta may willingness to do it,” she said.
Sheryn’s “Love United” digital concert is happening on October 23.
Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw
After the release of her homecoming single “Tulad Ng Dati,” which talks about ghosting, Kapamilya diva Sheryn Regis is back with another love song titled “Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw.” And typical of the Crystal Voice of Asia, the song, which highlights the struggle of letting go of a toxic relationship, brings listeners to a ‘birit’-filled musical experience that’s both powerful and soothing.
Sheryn wrote some parts of the song with the help of her manager Michiko Unso and ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo. She said she wanted the lyrics to speak of courage for those who feel weak to let go. “Kung toxic na talaga sa utak mo, iwasan mo. Try to divert, let go and get up. Choose yourself. Choose to love yourself,” said the songstress. There’s no reason to feel weak or alone because you are not, for God is with you.
To match the sad yet empowering lyrics, Sheryn and her team came up with a thought-provoking music video, which she starred in with Kapamilya hunk actor Vin Abrenica. It explored the bigger reality of women suffering from an abusive relationship although there were also intimate moments in the beginning.
Although it was her first time to meet and work with Vin, she didn’t feel awkward. They talked before the shoot. Even the intimate scenes went smoothly, thanks to their professionalism. Sheryn was also impressive in the heavy scenes, taking inspiration from her personal experiences.
“Naranasan ko kasi ‘yung feeling na ‘yun, na ayoko na, gusto ko nang bumitaw. Akala ko nga mawawala na ako. I lost my self-worth and self-esteem. I thought wala na akong pag-asa,” she described that depressive season, which she managed to survive through the help of her family and fans.
Sheryn realized at that time how empowering it felt to let go. After the trial came her second lease on life and her career, thus she was inspired to focus again on her music. Ironically, more blessings came after the breakup. She let go of the pain but held on to God’s promises.
The Cebuana diva hopes her new single also breathes courage and inspiration to her listeners. “Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw” is available via digital music platforms while the music video is now uploaded on Star Music’s YouTube Channel.
