While the number of islands that comprise our beautiful archipelago, the Philippines, has never been consistent due to the tide, but there’s one thing that we’re definitely sure of about our beloved country – that it boasts numerous picturesque places that range from breathtaking landscapes and mesmerizing seascapes to enthralling historical sites and abundant flora and fauna.
And these are definitely among the reasons why some of the teleseryes we’ve seen through the years were filmed in scenic locations not just to enhance the narrative, but to further showcase unique and fascinating splendor of the Philippines – from its tourist attractions to its people and culture and traditions.
So, just in case you’re still thinking about where to go next on your next getaway or only wanting to look back on the filming locations of your favorite teleseryes that you’ve already visited, check out this Kapamilya Timelist feature and, together, let’s travel to different places in the country right at the comfort of our homes!
Let’s start with Benguet wherein three of the series listed here were filmed. As the 2014 series Forevermore followed the life of Agnes Calay, played by Liza Soberano – the beautiful, diligent, and passionate daughter of a strawberry farmer in the fictional barrio of Sitio La Presa, the Star Creatives production team and ensemble cast of Forevermore braved the cold weather of Sitio Pungayan in Tuba.
The team behind the 2015 afternoon soap opera Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita also shot several of its scenes in Itogon, Benguet, which were mostly seen in the initial episodes that chronicled the childhood of its lead character Cecilia, played by seasoned actress Vina Morales. Thus, its OBB showcased the bird’s eye view of the lush greeneries, green mountains, and long rivers of Itogon that really took our breaths away.
Another teleserye that chose to film a significant chunk of its narrative thousands of meters above sea level is Can’t Buy Me Love, which showed us the beauty of Atok, the location of the fictional town of La Sinfonia where Caroline and Bingo, played by Belle Mariano and Donny Pangilinan, had some sort of workation, as well as an investigation regarding the mysterious death of her mother. Nonetheless, they still made sure to cherish their sojourn by appreciating the colorful and captivating blooms of flowers and the breathtaking from the top of the mountain despite the freezing cold.
Just above Benguet is Ilocos Sur, where a huge part of the Season 7 of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano was shot. The production staff and crew and the ensemble cast brought us to some of the historic and popular destinations there as well as in Ilocos Norte and Bataan. But one of the lesser locations they used was the Pinsal Falls that is located in Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur. This was where the characters of Sharon Cuneta and Rowell Santiago, Aurora and Oscar, used to have their picnic dates in their younger years before circumstances tore them apart.
Found opposite of the Ilocos Region in the map is the Region 2 or Cagayan Valley, where the province of Quirino belongs. It may not be among the famous tourist destinations in the country, but this humble yet beautiful province actually boasts a lot of splendid attractions, which include the Bimmapor Rock Formation, in which a few scenes of the afternoon drama The Greatest Love were filmed. It is part of the Siitan Nature Park and showcases a stunning geological landscape of enormous limestone wall found along Siitan River.
Nestled in the middle part of the Luzon island is Region 3, in which Zambales belongs to. It is among the go-to places among Manileños who seek refuge from the hustles and bustles of city life due to its proximity to Metro Manila. Aside from its gorgeous beaches, another must-visit places there is the Sitio Coto in Masinloc, Zambales where the 2015 remake of Pangako Sa ‘Yo was shot.
A few hours’ drive away from Metro Manila, Tanay, Rizal is also another top destination, especially for motorcyclists who want to go on rides. But in 2017, it became the venue of the tapings of the controversial series Wildflower, with its bucolic setting and captivating landscapes providing viewers with a breather while watching the intense and horrendous scenes in the fictional town of Poblacion Ardiente. Some of the scenes, meanwhile, particularly the most final one, was shot in the Windmill Farm in Pililia.
Since it is a luxury resort on a private island, not everyone can afford to have their vacation in the beautiful Balesin Island situated in Polilio, Quezon. Thankfully, FPJ’s Batang Quiapo was able to get us there, thanks to Ramon (Christopher de Leon) for taking his wife Mokang (Lovi Poe) to the paradise-like sanctuary. Apart from its cool and clear seawaters, visitors can also enjoy other activities and amenities, just like what the sweet honeymooners did.
In 2014, ABS-CBN created the TV adaptation of the legendary Pinoy comic series Dyesebel, with Anne Curtis portraying the titular character. Since the narrative obviously requires being in the sea most of the time, it’s indeed necessary to find a stunning location both on land and under the sea. And one of the top candidates is the enchanting marine sanctuary of Coron, Palawan, which really complemented the deific beauty of Anne.
But it wasn’t only the Kapamilya series shot in Palawan, as the 2015 daytime drama Ningning gave us a glimpse of the simple and peaceful life of the townsfolks of Isla Baybay, San Vicente through inspiring story of the titular character, impressively portrayed by former child star Jana Agoncillo, and her lovely family and their coastal community.
The same thing with the 2016 series The Story of Us, which captured not just the idyllic and gorgeous splendor of El Nido, but the humble lives of the locals there through the tale of childhood sweethearts Tin and Macoy, played by former on-and-off-screen sweethearts Kim Chiu and Xian Lim.
Moving on to the Bicol Region, our first stop would be Caramoan, Camarines Sur, which is famous for it’s paradise-like grandeur due to its crystal-clear waters and white sand beaches. It was already featured in a number of movies and TV shows, which include the 2016 romance-drama series Magpahanggang Wakas, starring proud Bicolano actor Jericho Rosales and actress Arci Muñoz.
We were then able to get a closer look on the photogenic Mayon Volcano, the prominent Cagsawa Ruins, and spotless beaches of Albay in the 2016 series We Will Survive, which was top-billed by comediennes Melai Cantiveros and Pokwang as best friends. As Melai’s character Maricel worked as an outgoing yet knowledgeable tour guide in the City of Legazpi, viewers were seemingly treated to a fun tour in every episode.
While it was also shot in Batangas and Laguna, a huge percentage of A Family Affair was shot in the stunning island of Masbate, the “Cattle Capital of the Philippines”. Aside from the Rodeo Masbateño Festival held every second week of April, another highlight of the province are its enchanting beaches that have crystal-clear aquamarine waters and powdery white sand, which include the Buntod Reef Marine Sanctuary & Sandbar in Masbate City.
Last, but definitely not the least is The Iron Heart, which is the only teleserye in this list that was entirely filmed in Visayas, specifically. Cebu and Iloilo. The team was able to shoot in some of its popular tourist destinations for the first season, such as Temple of Leah, Cebu Provincial Capitol, and Tops Lookout that are all situated in Cebu City. Richard Gutierrez’s character Apollo was also spotted riding his big bike through the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway, as well as training himself at the Osmeña Peak in Mantalongon, Dalaguete. At the same time, they also got to showcase the pristine beauty of the other municipalities. And for the second season, we were able to get a glimpse of the beauty of Iloilo.
