Singer-actress Rachel Alejandro has numerous theater productions and acclaimed movies such as “Quezon’s Game” and “Larawan” under her belt but she’s never done something similar to her role in the upcoming Kapamilya series “The Broken Marriage Vow”.”
In the highly-anticipated Pinoy adaptation of the BBC drama “Doctor Foster,” Rachel dons the character of Nathalia Lucero. She’s the socialite mother of Lexi Lucero (Sue Ramirez), who is in a secret affair with David Ilustre (Zanjoe Marudo), the husband of Dr. Jill Ilustre (Jodi Sat. Maria).
Rachel is excited for her biggest teleserye stint, preparing diligently to build her character. And that explains the blonde hair. She said meeting the cast has been smooth, although she hasn’t taken many scenes with the other stars yet besides Jodi.
Their first lock-in cycle last July in Baguio was quite a challenge, though. They had to postpone most of their scenes because of the heavy rains that’s why she’s only worked close with Jodi. Despite the unforeseen challenges, Rachel is elated to work with someone as experienced as Jodi.
There were adjustments on her part but she managed to catch on, thanks to Director Connie Macatuno’s guidance. Direk Connie would affirm her performance, thus helping boost her confidence. “Maganda rin minsan ‘yung may confirmation na I’m on the right track when it comes to the character.”
With the help of Direk Connie, Rachel slowly sketched Nathalia as someone who gets her way, very charismatic, and is a fun person but will evolve to protect her daughter as the story progresses.
Adding to the challenge of playing an adult’s mom is that she has zero maternal experience in real life, apart from her ‘tita’ duties. “Hindi ako Nanay in real life. Ang closest thing would be ‘yung mga pamangkin ko. I love them. I protect them. So doon galing ‘yung hugot ko siguro.”
The cast is bound for Baguio for their next cycle of bubble taping next month. Watch out for “The Broken Marriage Vow” soon on Kapamilya channels.
