Many believe that spending lavishly is a normal part of celebrity culture. But, these Kapamilya stars defy this assumption as they would only buy essentials.

With guesting, shoots, and public events on their plate, it makes sense for celebs to own many clothes. Especially for newbies who still don’t have their stylists, clothes can be good investments. Kapamilya love team Andi Abaya and Kobie Brown said they bring their own for shoots, thus the need to constantly upgrade their wardrobe. Apart from looking good, Kobie also pays for his twice to thrice a week Tagalog classes. Their “Connected” co-star Ralph Malibunas likewise spends most of his talent fee on new clothes.
“Love In 40 Days” lead actor Ronnie Alonte used to splurge a lot on fashion items, to the point of mindless shopping, “Ang sakit ko talaga minsan marami pa akong damit na hindi ko pa nasusuot, bumibili pa rin ako ng bago. Natatambak siya talaga.” He’s learning to curb this habit by toning down his OOTDs to plain white and black shirts. Meanwhile, Loisa Andalio, the other half of LoiNie, thinks twice about shopping since she has bills to pay.
Jona used to drop big bucks on clothes and accessories, “Kasi ‘yun ang isa sa mga requirements mo bilang isang artist, isang singer.” She eventually had her stylist who sources clothes for her, and now her expenses are all about supplies for her animal shelter for rescued cats and dogs.
Others prioritize food budget, like Janine Gutierrez, influenced by a practical advice from mom Lotlot de Leon, “Sabi ng Mommy ko, okay lang na gumastos sa pagkain kasi hindi naman masasayang. Wala, eh, masarap kasi makipag-salo-salo. Ate pa ako, so pag kumakain kami, ako nagbabayad.”
Albeit affected by the increasing prices of meals and delivery, Matty Juniosa still chooses to satisfy his cravings. CJ Navato, as a culinary student and the family’s chef, considers food – specifically ingredients used – his largest expenditure.
Food category also eats up Krystal Brimner’s money, second is her perfume collection.
For Janine Berdin, it’s food, then game in-app purchases. Same goes for Chico Alicaya, who had big reactions after realizing he’s buying too much game skins. JM De Guzman splurges on gadgets since he can use them for research.
Hunk actor Paulo Avelino smiled, saying he allots a good amount on his son’s tuition fee.
Richard Juan invests rather than splurges. Just like him, Amanda Zamora isn’t materialistic and would rather spend on experiences like traveling, “I keep booking trips ‘cause that’s my escape.”
“Lyric and Beat” star Angela Ken rewards herself once in a while depending on her random whims.
