As they currently promote their 6th Single Coupling song “Sampung Taon ng Sakura,” seven members of the MNL48 graced the recent episode of Kapamilya Chat to talk about it and their memorable experiences in filming the docu-video, as well as enthusiastically take on the exciting and fun challenges we prepared for them.
The interview commenced with Jem Caldejon discussing what “Sampung Taon ng Sakura” is all about. She stated, “Sampung Taon ng Sakura is about reminiscing moments, kaya po ang chorus niya is ‘after 10 years magkita tayo’ – meaning after 10 years magkita-kita ulit tayo old friends, old family, and then let’s bring back memories. ‘Yon po ‘yong main meaning ng Sampung Taon ng Sakura.”
When quizzed how she feels for being the center girl for this song, she told the host, “Sa mga hindi po aware sa protégé process, ito po talaga ‘yong goal ng lahat, dream ng lahat po na makuha ‘yong center position. And ako, kahit paulit-ulit nang tinatanong sa akin, hindi ko alam kung paano sagutin, ‘di ko alam ‘yong proper words na sasabihin kasi sobrang nakaka-overwhelm. And sobrang happy po talaga and blessed po to have this center position.”
Members Miho Hoshino, Andi Garcia, Yzabel Divinagracia, Lara Layar, Dana Brual, and Princess Briquilo were also asked about their reaction on being part of the STNS Senbatsu, and they all have nothing but gratitude and happiness for this wonderful opportunity that they’ve been waiting for ever since their journey in the group began – especially Yzabel and Lara who both revealed that they actually were not part of the original lineup.
With regards to the message that they want to convey to their fans and listeners through their latest single, Jem related, “For me, kapag napakinggan n’yo ang “Sampung Taon ng Sakura,” hindi lang siya basta gusto naming ipakita ‘yong beautiful faces ng MNL48, hindi lang siya basta awra-awra, beauty shots, and everything. It’s about friendship, bonding, and ginawa po kasi namin siya in the middle of the pandemic, so sobrang hirap.”
She added, “Hindi lang siya basta music video lang, we want you to learn something from it. We want you to know na family and friends are something you need to treasure for a lifetime. Kasi kahit gaano kayo hindi magkita, after 10 years kapag nagkita kayo, nandoon pa rin ‘yong love and bond na meron kayo noong nag-umpisa kayo.”
Each one of them also enthusiastically imparted their favorite part or memory in doing the docu-video, as well as funniest and most memorable moments they had while filming it. They also named the local artists they truly look up to either for their admirable personalities or their magnificent talents.
The seven talented and gorgeous ladies then took on the Bukingan Challenge, wherein they revealed who among them is/are being described by the descriptions given by the host. Find out who is/are the “pinakamabilis matawa”, “pinakamabilis maiyak”, “kalmado”, “mahilig magkuwento”, “pinakamatakaw”, “masandal tulog”, “mahilig mag-video at mag-picture”, “easy to get along with”, and “pinakamabilis matawa sa jokes” by watching this video!
They also proudly talked about their favorite delicacies from their respective hometowns, and went on to play the “online caroling with a twist”, wherein they had to guess and sing a bit of the Christmas songs, which title matches the acronym that the host dictated.
The episode wrapped up with the Jem, Dana, Yzabel, Miho, Andi, Lara, and Princess giving their heartfelt messages to their cherished MNLoves, as well as encouraging everyone to listen to “Sampung Taon ng Sakura” and watching their docu-video “Sampung Taon ng Sakura…Ang Mga Alaala”.
