Meryll Soriano tips for first-time moms

Now a mother of two, Meryll Soriano has become more aware of the struggles of raising kids in this modern time, especially now that we’re in a pandemic. This is why she decided to put up a YouTube channel that also serves as a small community where moms can uplift and help each other. As they say, it takes a village to raise children.

In this episode of Kapamilya Chat, the actress shared important tips for first-time moms and she also revealed what’s inside her newborn’s diaper bag!

The public was happy and surprised when Meryll introduced her baby with partner Joem Bascon last January. Based on several social media photos and vlogs, Meryll is a hands-on mother. One of her top secrets to successfully managing motherhood is being prepared. Just take a look at how she loads her diaper bag with all the essentials.

Meryll got everything covered! She always hangs a small alcohol container outside the bag. The small pocket is meant for the grooming kit which includes a small comb, nail cutter, and toothbrush.

She doesn’t forget to toss in baby cologne. “Kailangan mabango, siyempre, ayaw ni Maricel Soriano,” she quipped. She also brings a tiny basketball toy, “Kasi mahilig sa basketball ang Tatay, so kailangan bata pa lang makikita na niya.”

Also inside the bag is an extra pair of shoes. Grown-ups have to make sure their hands are clean before touching the baby, that’s why Meryll has an extra bottle of sanitizer. Extra diapers are slipped in the side pockets.

Inside the main compartment are extra clothes, socks, beanie, and bib contained in a small plastic. She also brings books because she loves reading to her baby. Of course, the medicine stock such as ointment for rashes and paracetamol in case of fever. Don’t forget the changing pad, as Meryll said, “Hindi mo siya pwdeng ibaba kung saan-saan. Kailangan malinis because germs, no, I don’t like it!”

She also brings noise-cancelling headphones for the baby’s peaceful sleep during travel. When going out, Meryll has to bring more items like car seat, stroller, and extra emergency kit.

As tips to first-time moms, Meryll explained the benefits of just enjoying the journey. She knows it entails a lot of pressure and anxiety but seeing your baby is worth the nine-month struggle. “Enjoyin n’yo lahat. Alam ko may mga times na mahirap pero lahat ‘yan ay babalikan ninyo at sasabihin ninyong, ‘Ang hirap pero ang saya, ang sarap.’”

She also stressed the need for self-love and proper healing time, “Because you have to be at your best para maalagaan ninyo ‘yung anak n’yo nang grabe.” She reminds moms to be cautious with their body’s healing phase. Meryll admittedly gets too excited at times and she forgets to slow down.

For Meryll, every facet of motherhood is fulfilling. She is especially glad that her 13-year-old son Elijah looks at her as a best friend whom he can confide in. “Bata pa lang siya na-establish ko na pwede niya akong maging kaibigan even if I need to be authoritative kasi kailangan ko pa rin ng mga rules.”
