A sweet, foolproof way of surviving the heat of summer is by cooling down with one of our most beloved desserts – ice cream! And since there are a ton of irresistibly good flavors out there, some Kapamilya stars help us pick one by sharing their favorites.
The ice cream gods whipped up a perfect recipe when they created the mint chocolate chip flavor. It’s a popular choice among ABS-CBN artists including Viral Scandal star Kaila Estrada and PBB Kumunity Season 10 celebrity housemate Anji Salvacion.
The classic vanilla is the go-to flavor of singers Mackie Empuerto and Ford Valencia. “Gusto ko lang ‘yung lasa niya. Hindi sobrang tamis, hindi rin sobrang nakakasawa,” said Ford. Besides its heavenly taste, vanilla is known for its versatility. It can level up other desserts.
Ria Atayde was undecided she went for “lahat ng flavors” depending on her mood and the brand. But on top of her list are vanilla, mint chocolate chip, and cookies and cream.
Maxene Magalona will forever be grateful for the day salted caramel flavor was born. “Hindi naman uso ang salted caramel before. ‘Di ba dati caramel lang? Pero n’ung naging salted caramel siya, the game changed, guys. As in ‘yun na talaga, forever na!”
When coffee is life but you also have a sweet tooth, then go for coffee-flavored ice cream. Gian Magdangal said, “Parang 2-in-1 siya sa akin. It’s like coffee and dessert in one and it does the job.”
Others prefer traditional flavors like chocolate and strawberry for Xyriel Manabat, Double Dutch and vanilla for Kiko Estrada.
An ice cream date with the ‘barkada’ sounds cool. Should girl group BINI decide to have one, their choices would be chocolate for Sheena, coffee crumble for Colet, rocky road for Stacey, Double Dutch for Jhoanna, and cookies and cream for Aiah. Gwen prefers something fruity like avocado. Maloi would love to indulge in the sweet and slightly bitter taste of green tea matcha ice cream. Meanwhile, He’s Into Her cast member Mikha would delight her tastebuds with either pistachio or coffee crumble.
If their sibling group BGYO joins the ice cream party, Mikki would go for cookies and cream; JL, chocolate and green tea matcha; and Gelo, mint chocolate chip or strawberry. Akira used to like cookies and cream so much but now he’s more into pistachio and Double Dutch. Never mind his food allergies, Nate wouldn’t say no to ice cream in cookie dough, vanilla, cookies and cream, and strawberries and cream flavors.
Pinoys have their classic version of the dessert, of course – the sorbetes or dirty ice cream typically served in bland wafer cones. Sylvia Sanchez likes the cheese-flavored ice cream from “mamang sorbetero” and the equally popular iced buko (coconut popsicles).
Pinoy flavors also won the heart of Viral Scandal actress Charlie Dizon. Her top favorite is ube-quezo pastillas, “Very homey ‘yung feeling niya, Kumbaga madali po siyang i-enjoy kasi very Filipino po. At the same time, wala pang masyadong gumagawa ng gan’ung combination.”
Treat yourself to some ice cream, Kapamilya! What flavor will you get?
