We’ve seen her grow right before our eyes – from being that talented young contestant and eventual grand winner of The Voice Kids Season 1, to becoming one of the most popular young singers of her generation. And since it has already been a long time since she had an interview, DJ Jhai Ho recently caught up with Lyca Gairanod on ABS-CBN Entertainment’s Hotspot Live!
The fun and exciting virtual conversation commenced with the host asking her about the things that have been keeping her occupied nowadays, to which she divulged doing TikTok, creating content for her official YouTube Channel, and attending online classes since she’s currently in high school. She went on to describe how it feels to be in an online class and its difference with the traditional face-to-face learning.
Asked for message for her ever-loyal supporters, she sincerely uttered, “Thank you po sa lahat ng sumusuporta at sumusubaybay po sa mga vlog ko at sa mga updates ko po. Nagpapasalamat po ako sa kanila dahil lagi naman po silang nand’yan para suportahan ako. So ‘yon, thank you so much po, lalo na do’n sa mga ‘ka-charan’ (or how she fondly calls her subscribers).”
Talking about her journey in the world of video blogging, Lyca related that watching the vlogs of famous personalities like Michelle Dy inspired her to put up her own channel, with now over 924 thousand subscribers as of this writing. And if given the chance, she would love to collaborate with Alex Gonzaga for a “mukbang”, with couple Jayzam Manabat and Camille Trinidad (a.k.a. JaMill) for an interview, and Zeinab Harake, to whom she’s about to work on a vlog as soon as the pandemic is over. She also revealed being the one to edit it, which amazed DJ Jhai Ho.
The 15-year-old singer then discussed her vlog featuring her beloved grandmother and the shanty where she and her family used to live prior to winning The Voice Kids Season 1, and even gave us a snippet of her rendition of Carol Banawa’s “Iingatan Ka”, dedicating it to her lola.
When asked regarding her greatest learning in life, it would be not easily giving up to your dreams and being not afraid to take risks.
As Lyca demonstrated her daily makeup routine, which is basically comprised of dabbing BB cream, putting on lip & cheek tint, applying eyeshadow, and curling her lashes, they talked about her romantic life and of her best friends The Voice Kids Season 2 grand champion Elha Nympha and rising artist Brian Gazmen.
The chikahan-slash-makeup tutorial concluded with DJ Jhai Ho requesting Lyca to sing another song, to which she heeded by belting out Jaya’s rendition of the I Have A Lover Filipino soundtrack “Hanggang Dito Na Lang”.
