Love teams, internet sensations, and virtual jamming dominate Hotspot’s most viewed episodes of 2020

Nothing, not even the pandemic, can stop Hotspot and DJ Jhai Ho from spreading happiness, laughter, and good vibes. Before we bid 2020 goodbye, here’s a recap of Hotspot’s Top 10 most loved episodes!

Kim Chiu

The Chinita Princess appeared on the show baring her stories of self-love and sweet victory following a series of intense bashing received due to her ‘Bawal Lumabas’ statement that has turned into a hot topic on social media.

Kim, a tough grass with a soft heart, transformed the stones thrown at her into her own power tools. She launched a full track and merchandise out of the viral ‘Bawal Lumabas’ mash-up. The proceeds were used to distribute 1,500 food packs to families deeply affected by the pandemic and donate Php300, 000 to a swab testing campaign spearheaded by Angel Locsin. Kudos to Kim for always reaping something good from anywhere she’s planted.

The It’s Showtime host also shared her ultimate self-love workout routine using dumbbells and a hula hoop.

LizQuen for Make It With You

The love story of Billy and Gabo set in the lush, fictitious mango farm of Nueva Valencia was supposed to be one of the sweetest tales to enliven our 2020. But the pandemic halted the show’s production mid-March until the management decided to cancel the series due to circumstances.

But, even with an unfinished story, Billy and Gabo will forever remain an unforgettable tandem in the hearts of solid LizQuen shippers. Straight from the grand media launch of Make It With You in February, Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil together with other cast members had a fun ‘chika’ time with DJ Jhai Ho.

Quarantine Edition Premiere

To keep up with the quarantine guidelines, Hotspot kicked off its ‘Live from Home’ episodes with a recap of the ABS-CBN’s Pantawid ng Pag-Ibig virtual concert. The musical event featured Kapamilya artists coming together to raise funds for the benefit of families most affected by the pandemic. It also served as a tribute to frontline workers.

Antenorcruz and Tim Pavino

On the 7th spot is the ‘kantahan’ session with Tawag ng Tanghalan finalist Antenorcruz and The Voice of the Philippines alumnus Tim Pavino.

The balladeers talked about their music and how they jumped into the new normal trend by creating online content not just to showcase their talents but most especially to bring everyone happiness.

In this episode, the crooners also shared their simple ways to keep active and stay healthy – walking, vitamins, and sunlight for Tim; loading up on fruits and getting enough rest for Antenorcruz. Of course, the interview will not end without the guests serenading the viewers with their silky voices.

Jolina Magdangal

Titled “Lutong Bahay,” the episode with Jolina Magdangal helped solve every mom’s quarantine dilemma on making homecooked meals while taking a lot of factors – such as budget – into consideration. The Magandang Buhay host shared her ultimate kitchen hacks and snack-time experiments perfect for kids.

The hands-on mom also reminded fellow momshies to make time for self-love to become an even better parent. For Jolina, simple activities like working out boost a mother’s happiness, making her more confident in managing the household.

Rico Bautista aka Aling Nena

Guestings of viral internet stars amassed heart reactions from the netizens. On the list is Rico Bautista who we all love for his funny skits as Aling Nena in his self-produced “Walang Ganun Mars” online videos.

Rico’s natural wit and relatable ‘serye’ about two neighbors bickering over petty issues featuring a two-faced ‘kumare’ granted him the golden ticket to fame. The netizens enjoyed his online videos that he was inspired to create another series of sketches, this time featuring hilarious situations between a mother and her kid during the quarantine.

In this level up episode, Rico gamely took on a rib-tickling acting challenge ala Aling Nena.

KathNiel LIVE in Davao

Legions of KathNiel lovers raved online, and at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City, in February during the love team’s meet and greet session following a one-night concert. DJ Jhai Ho was there to witness how Davaoenos welcomed Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla with loud ‘fan girl’ screams, waves, and lots of ‘I love you.’

The tour served as the power couple’s Valentine treat for the fans and one of their last public appearances before the country was placed under community quarantine. But, pandemic and all, the pair did not stop giving KathNiels the good vibes they need by creating a digital rom-com series called “The House Arrest of Us.”

Yasmin Asistido

With the community quarantine driving everyone to social media, another internet sensation made it to this list. Yasmin Asistido aka Kween Yasmin is on the Top Three most viewed guesting on Hotspot.

Yasmin is undeniably one of the most entertaining creators on social media. Thousands of likes and laughing emojis serve as proof. But, thanks to her appearance on Hotspot, fans learned that Yasmin’s life is a funny-sad story. Despite the personal battles, Yasmin makes an effort to make other people happy and help them get back on track during these trying times.

OKS’ Grand Media Launch

Despite major setbacks, the Kapamilya Network remained committed in bringing fun and entertainment to Filipinos, this time in the digital sphere, by launching OKS or Online Kapamilya Shows.

The new venture was a perfect alternative for viewers who missed watching their favorite Kapamilya shows on free TV and the stuck-at-home family members looking for programs to uplift their spirits.

Two months into quarantine, OKS produced fresh original content ranging from games and gags to talk shows and reality programs. In a star-studded grand media launch aired on Hotspot, Ruffa Gutierrez carried the banner for the lifestyle department with Love Thy Chika.

Other shows included KG Online hosted by Beauty Gonzalez and Dimples Romana, Paligayahin N’yo Ako headlined by Ivana Alawi, Promdibate moderated by Kim Molina and Jerald Napoles, and The Gold Squad of the popular quartet composed of Francine Diaz, Andrea Brillantes, Kyle Echarri, and Seth Fedelin.

DJ Loonyo

DJ Loonyo does not try hard to make girls go crazy over him. The social media personality can easily set the internet ablaze with his sizzling dance moves and charming good looks. So, it isn’t surprising to know that he raked in the most number of views for a Hotspot episode this year.

The live phone interview gave DJ Loonyo’s supporters a chance to get to know him more. Female fans learned his relationship status, the qualities he looks for in a woman, and his celebrity crushes.
