Kapamilya stars test their Tagalog vocabulary

The millennial generation is known for their creative slang lexicon, which tweaks even the Pinoy vocabulary – lodi, petmalu, havey, waley, and so on.  While linguists consider this a good thing, meaning the Filipino language is alive and evolving, nothing would beat the beauty of native Filipino words.

In this quiz called FilipiKnow Challenge, our favorite Kapamilya stars familiarize their tongues with little known Filipino terminologies. How did they fare? Find out below!

In the six-item test, contenders are simply asked to match the Tagalog word to its right meaning between two given choices. The questions are durungawan (bintana), sambat (tinidor), naninibugho (nagseselos), marikit (maganda), salipawpaw (eroplano), and batalan (banyo).

Charlie Dizon represents the smart and valiant Pinay as Isabel Gezali in the hit series A Soldier’s Heart. The actress takes this Pinoy pride crossing over from reel to real as she got a perfect score in this quiz. Her most favorite word would have to be marikit, which means beautiful. Charlie once played as ‘Marikit’ in the epic-serye Bagani.

Let’s see who else can keep up with Charlie’s feat! Young singer Darren Espanto is currently living in Canada but he remains fluent in Tagalog. Darren only got one mistake in this test.

Jayda Avanzado might be more comfortable in speaking in English. But this doesn’t mean she loves Tagalog any less. The music maven got a score of 5, just like her singing partner.

Gorgeous besties Elisse Joson and Michelle Vito slay the challenge as they answered four items correctly.  New mom Sofia Andres finished the challenge with a low-key dab pose and likewise garnered a total score of four.

Isn’t learning our own language exciting? What other native Filipino words do you know?
