The path might be far from what we imagined but life still has amazing ways of leading us to exactly where we’re supposed to be, like these Kapamilya stars destined for showbiz. And if life had taken a different turn, here’s what their jobs could be like.
Childhood dreams don’t always become a reality because life happens and other things would take over sometimes. This sounds true for Init sa Magdamag star Gab Lagman who wanted to be either a basketball player, pilot, or a nurse like his mom and stepdad. He was taking up Nursing before he went to the Philippines.
Wanderlust inspired Janine Gutierrez to dream of becoming an ambassador or diplomat. “Kasi gusto kong mag-travel at tumira sa ibang bansa. Mahilig ako sa history at kultura ng ibang bansa.” But her calling now is to be in front of the cameras to act and inspire – something we expect from a showbiz scion like her.
Jake Zyrus wanted to be a lawyer when he was young. However, his passion for music pulled him closer to the limelight, starting with joining amateur singing contests as a child. For him, artistry is synonymous with existence, that’s why he couldn’t imagine a career outside the entertainment scene. If not into singing, he would’ve been a record-label producer or a director.
In 2008, Manuel Chua joined Pinoy Fear Factor wherein he earned the moniker ‘Super Manuel’ because of his shocking stunts. His following coupled with good looks and acting chops also secured him a spot in ABS-CBN’s talent circle. Hadn’t he been an actor, he’s probably making a living as a businessman.
Growing up watching Fernando Poe Jr.’s films, Mitoy Yonting dreamt to be a policeman. He studied BS Criminology but he had to give up and focus on his singing career to earn a living. We bet Mitoy was reminded of this childhood dream when he recently guested on FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano as Teban, an ordinary caretaker who idolizes the hero-cop Cardo (Coco Martin).
Liza Soberano is known to champion mental health care in line with being a Psychology major. So if she isn’t an actress today, her backup plan is to be a psychologist. There was also a time when she wanted to be a lawyer “but it takes a longer time to study.”
Liza’s beau Enrique Gil is probably an animal and environmental advocate, “I’m somewhere in the middle of a jungle trying to save animals or maybe saving our oceans and seas.” Working as a businessman is another option for him.
Meryll Soriano’s mom was a member of a celebrated dance group in the ‘70s. Meryll is also the niece of Diamond Star Maricel Soriano who is glorified not only as a power actress but a dance floor queen as well. Growing up in a family of dancers, she wanted to take on the same path, specifically as a ballerina.
At 17, Aljon Mendoza joined Pinoy Big Brother and eventually showbiz. Hadn’t he been offered to try acting, he’s probably studying today and pursuing his dream to be a pilot.
