Exclusive: Kapamilya stars perfect meal

We have different ideas of a perfect meal. For some, it’s about balanced diet and nutritional needs; others consider the way of cooking, food culture, and company. For these Kapamilya stars, it’s also about just giving in to their mouth-watering cravings!

Some Kapamilya artists gushed about the abundance of delicious dishes in the Philippines. For Joey Marquez, the classic pinakbet is considered top-tier because it’s healthy and very Pinoy. A serving of pinakbet is loaded with vitamins and minerals from squash, okra, ampalaya or bitter gourd, string beans, and eggplant.

Even with the perennial heat, Filipinos love warm soup-based dishes like sinigang. Aljon Mendoza likes it best when it’s bangus or milkfish with lots of kangkong. And when he’s full with its tangy goodness, a cup of ice cream would give him room to breathe.

Ex-Pinoy Big Brother housemate Gino Roque would go for chicken inasal, a pride of the Visayan cuisine, paired with sour soup and chicken oil drizzled on rice.

For Hashtag Maru Delgado, the perfect meal is all about a good serving of sizzling sisig, which originated from the country’s culinary capital, Pampanga City. Of course, talking about the perfect meal wouldn’t be complete without the mention of adobo, which is ‘king’ for Ultimate Bida Star: Boy Next Door Dustine Mayores.

Filipino and Korean food tickle the taste buds of Hoy Love You Two star Roxanne Guinoo. And there has to be extra rice and desert as well. But most important, she wants the whole family gathered around the table.
Joross Gamboa likewise believes that the perfect meal is something shared with the family. They’re pescatarians, so the dish must be fish and vegetable only – and must be served warm.

For Tawag Ng Tanghalan hurado Nyoy Volante, the quality of love around the table is more important than what is on their plates. “It doesn’t matter kung formal or informal as long as masaya kayong nagkukuwentuhan at magkakasama. It’s really a special thing when the people you love are on the same table as you.”

Karina Bautista would satisfy her sophisticated palate with medium rare steak, paired with fruit shake or juice. “Perfect combination ‘yun kasi ‘yung steak maalat-alat na meaty tapos ‘yung juice, sweet.”

Medium rare steak is likewise the fancy food for Albie Casiño. He likes it served with buttered broccoli, rice or mashed potato, and soda.

Just two nights before this interview, Heaven Peralejo had a culinary adventure by tasting Japan’s most expensive and finest wagyu called matsusaka beef. To make it a more perfect meal, she paired it with wine.
