Kapamilya Snaps: Unforgettable teleserye deaths that shocked, touched viewers in recent years

Watching a plethora of teleseryes through the years, we’ve been arguably accustomed to the idea that the lead characters are spared from death. But in the recent years, several dramas broke this impression as they bravely killed some of the significant characters in their narrative.

And in this episode of Kapamilya Snaps, let’s take a look back on some of the most unforgettable deaths we’ve ever witnessed in Kapamilya teleseryes in the recent years!

Many have come and gone in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano throughout its five successful years on television, but what definitely pierced our hearts the deepest were the tragic demise of the two most important people in the life of titular character Cardo Dalisay (Coco Martin) – his beloved son Ricky Boy (Al Vaughn Chler Tuliao) and wife Alyana (Yassi Pressman).

It can be recalled that Ricky Boy was among the casualties in the terror bombing at a mall in the early parts of the long-running action-drama series. Alyana may have survived that explosion, but she wasn’t able to escape death when she got in the way of the crossfire between Task Force Agila and the Black Ops and sustained fatal shots.

Two important characters were also killed in Wildflower, The General’s Daughter, and Ngayon At Kailanman, which spurred the main protagonists to become vicious and retaliate against those who did it to their people dear to them.

In Wildflower, aside from exacting revenge to those who murdered her father, what further fueled the wrath of Ivy Aguas (Maja Salvador) were the death of her nanny Carlota (Ana Abad Santos) and beau Diego. What made the former’s demise memorable was not just the way she was slain – brutally strangled and the hanged by Arnaldo (RK Bagatsing) – but the heartbreaking and trending reaction of Ivy upon seeing the hanging lifeless body. On the other hand, Diego’s death came as a surprise to the viewers as it happened only a few days before the much-awaited finale. He was shot by his own Lolo Julio (Tirso Cruz III) during his inauguration as the new governor of Poblacion Ardiente.

Meanwhile, the characters of Nanang Sabel and her son Elai, which were impressively played by Maricel Soriano and Arjo Atayde, bade farewell at the same time in The General’s Daughter after they got abducted and eventually killed by the ruthless Tiago (Tirso Cruz III) for knowing a secret that should not be bared.

Being the two leads in gayon At Kailanman, a lot of Kapamilyas and shippers of Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto were arguably shocked to find out that both their characters – Inno and Eva – would die in the end. Their supposed happily ever after together was hindered by the vengeful Oliver (Jameson Blake), who killed them on the very last episode of the series.

From being the one taking revenge by pretending to possess her daughter Emma (Janella Salvador), Maja’s The Killer Bride role Camila Dela Torre faced her death after the mysterious “Killer Groom” murdered her and she became a ghost for real.

Other bidas to die in a teleserye were Gael (Paulo Avelino) of Asintado and Mayari (Sofia Andres) of Bagani. Gael lost his life after he shielded Ana (Julia Montes) and Samantha (Shaina Magdayao) from an ambush that was orchestrated by the despicable Salvador (Nonie Bunecamino) and Miranda (Lorna Tolentino). Meanwhile, the unexpected exit of Mayari, one of the original five heroes of the adventure drama, happened after she was struck by lighting that came from the villain Sarimaw (Ryan Eigenmann) while she was trying to protect others.

They may be supporting roles, but the demise of Robert (Albert Martinez) from Kadenang Ginto, Peter (Nonie Buencamino) from The Greatest Love, Raquel (Mylene Dizon) from the The Good Son, Baristo (Joross Gamboa) from La Luna Sangre, and Jacob from Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin, still created a significant impact on the flow of the respective narratives of these series.

Robert indeed had a rough journey considering that he died twice on Kadenang Ginto. He was first presumed dead after a helicopter crash, but was later on revealed to had survived and was held captive by pirates. He was able to return to his family, but was eventually killed again by Hector (Joko Diaz).

The rekindling of his romance with The Greatest Love’s lead protagonist Gloria (Sylvia Sanchez) at their old age indeed touched a lot of hearts. Thus, viewers were probably heartbroken when Peter died peacefully in his sleep.

Another tear-jerking death was that of Raquel, who died after her son Joseph (Joshua Garcia) failed to save her when she was pushed off the edge of the rooftop during a struggle with Dado (Jeric Raval). That heart-stopping scene even trended because of the exceptional dramatic performance of the cast.

Meanwhile, taking on the role of a father to Malia (Kathryn Bernardo) after she was orphaned, Baristo did everything to protect her and their allies at all cost, including sacrificing his own life.

And lastly, Baby Jacob’s demise proved that fighting and exacting revenge really do no good. As Marissa (Jodi Sta. Maria) and Ellice (Iza Calzado) battle to bring each other down, an innocent soul was lost in Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin. The former lost her beloved son after they got into a car crash when a gunman tailed and fired shots at them in an attempt to ambush them.

Which of the teleserye deaths you have witnessed was the most unforgettable and most tear-jerking of all, Kapamilya?
