Kapamilya Snaps: These Kapamilya leading men continue to astound from being kontrabidas to becoming bidas

There’s definitely no doubt that the local entertainment scene is populated with a plethora of versatile, talented actors who have been working hard for them to land their big break. And as they waited for their time to shine, some of them enthusiastically accepted supporting roles and even took on the highly challenging villain roles.

And in this episode of Kapamilya Snaps, meet the Kapamilya actors who impressed us with their kontrabida portrayals before earning the coveted lead roles.

Coco Martin

Before he rose to ultimate stardom through his iconic roles in Walang Hanggan (2012), Juan Dela Cruz (2013), FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano (2015), and other hit teleseryes, did you know that Coco used to play supporting and antagonistic roles? In Komiks Presents: Tiny Tony (2008) starring his FPJAP co-actor John Prats, he was the greedy villain Joaquin Peralta.

Paulo Avelino

Throughout his 10 years in ABS-CBN, Paulo has consistently astounded us with his teleserye performances since his Kapamilya debut as Teddy Ledesma in 100 Days To Heaven (2011) up to his remarkable stint as Nathan Montenegro, the third party to Daniel (Coco Martin) and Katerina (Julia Montes), in the classic romance drama Walang Hanggan.

Jake Cuenca

With his good looks and brilliant acting chops, Jake can effortlessly make Kapamilyas swoon as one of the most bankable leading men in Philippine showbiz. At the same time, he’s also able to cement his reputation as a talented kontrabida.

Arguably, one of his best roles is from the epic drama series Ikaw Lamang, the abusive, egotistic, and corrupt Franco Hidalgo. And he apparently agrees as, in a previous interview, he talked about being selective of villain roles because he didn’t want fans to easily forget Franco.

He went on to astound us even more with his portrayal of main antagonist Carlos Dela Vega in the 2017 Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson-starrer Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin

RK Bagatsing

We may have dreamt of having a life partner like his Nang Ngumiti Ang Langit character Michael Villaluna, but we also wished not to meet someone like him as he did a great job in taking on kontrabida roles.

Who would forget when he made us abhor him as Arnaldo in the highly successful teleserye Wildflower? While main character Ivy Aguas (Maja Salvador) claimed most of the top memorable scenes, Arnaldo’s crazy impulses also had its shining moments.

Arjo Atayde

Being in the industry for eight years now, Arjo has indeed shown his versatility as an actor. He may be acclaimed in his performances as Paco in Hanggang Saan (2017) and as Elai in The General’s Daughter (2019), but it was his FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano stint that’s arguably the most unforgettable.

It can be recalled that he played one of the first villains in the show, Joaquin Tuazon, who killed Cardo’s twin brother Ador. His intense and heart-pounding clash with the titular character and his death on the long-running primetime series is one of the highest rating and most watched episodes.

Grae Fernandez

At 19 years old, Grae has turned out to become of today’s most promising young stars. After scoring supporting roles in his past teleserye appearances, he finally earned a lead role via the controversial drama Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin.

It’s safe to say that his amazing performance in Hiwaga ng Kambat could have paved the way for him to be given this project. He played Mateo, who constantly bullied Iking (Edward Barber) without knowing that they’re actually twin brothers.

These Kapamilya actors never stopped working hard and honing their talents while waiting for their turn to become the lead actors. So, just like these Kapamilya actors, you should never stop from pushing yourself until you achieve your own dreams!
