Aside from coming up with a well-written narrative and casting talented actors who suit the characters best, another important thing that filmmakers should ponder on is the setting of the project they’re working on.
While it has been easy to just artificially create it nowadays with the advent of CGI (computer-generated imagery) technology or closed sound stage productions, nothing could definitely beat real and natural locations. Thus, filmmakers spend huge amount of time hunting for the perfect place that will reflect the script and interpret the story.
Travelling at present may come with a lot of restrictions, but let us virtually take you to the picturesque spots around the Philippines that served as the filming locations of some of our favorite Kapamilya teleseryes via this Kapamilya Snaps feature.
As it follows the journey of Agnes Calay (Liza Soberano), the beautiful, diligent, and passionate daughter of a strawberry farmer in the fictional town of Sitio La Presa, the Star Creatives production team braved the cold weather of Sitio Pungayan in Tuba, Benguet in order to compel the viewers of Forevermore further. This eventually became a tourist destination, especially for the fans of LizQuen.
Apart from the kilig scenes of Ina (Kathryn Bernardo) and Angelo (Daniel Padilla), as well as of Amor (Jodi Sta. Maria) and Eduardo (Ian Veneracion) in Pangako Sa ‘Yo, we also found ourselves thrilled with the splendor of the fictional town of Punta Verde, which was shot in Sitio Coto in Masinloc, Zambales.
From giving us a glimpse of Italy in Dolce Amore, young lovers Serena (Liza Soberano) and Tenten (Enrique Gil) also at one point brought us to Bohol where they got to see tourist attractions like the world-famous Loboc River and Chocolate Hills. LizQuen then went on to take us to the mythical world of Sansinukob in their 2018 fanstasy-action series Bagani, which was partly filmed in Suba Paoay Sand Dunes located in Ilocos Norte.
Another teleserye shot in Ilocos Norte was Walang Hanggan, wherein Coco Martin and Julia Montes’ characters, Daniel and Katerina, had scenes at the Cape Bojeador Lighthouse in Burgos and at the Timmantang Rock in Pagudpud.
In 2018, we found ourselves not only fascinated with the love story of Adrian (JM de Guzman) and Michelle (Barbie Imperial), but also with the mystery and beauty enveloping the fictional place of El Paraiso in Precious Hearts Romance Presents: Araw Gabi. And its most notable landmark was a lighthouse, which is known in real life as the Faro de Punta Malabrigo Lighthouse found in Lobo, Batangas.
From one paradise to another, The Story of Us took us to the idyllic El Nido, Palawan, where the romance of its lead characters Tin (Kim Chiu) and Macoy (Xian Lim) bloomed. On its pilot episode, we were immediately treated to the panoramic view of the island, as well as its beauty under the sea.
We’re able to get a closer look to the photogenic Mayon Volcano, the prominent Cagsawa Ruins, and spotless beaches of Albay in the 2016 series We Will Survive, which was top-billed by comediennes Melai Cantiveros and Pokwang as best friends. As Melai’s character Maricel was a tour guide in the City of Legazpi, we seemed to be always on tour in every episode.
As its story revolves around the family who owns a sugarcane plantation and the peasants working for them, there’s no more suitable place to shoot Ikaw Lamang than in the largest tubuhan in the country – the Negros Island region. The first half of it was filmed in the City of Talisay, where one of its most famous landmarks, The Ruins, was featured.
The happenings in Wildflower may be always intense and shocking, but we were able to find some breather in the scenic setting of Poblacion Ardiente, which is actually situated in Tanay, Rizal. Some of its scenes, meanwhile, were captured in the Windmill Farm in Pililia, Rizal.
Last, but definitely not the least, is The Killer Bride that took place in the fictitious town of Las Espadas. It may have appeared small, but little we did know that it was actually shot in three different provinces, namely, Laguna, Quezon Province, and Davao del Norte.
Which among these filming locations have you visited already, or looking forward to set foot in someday?
