Kapamilya Snaps: Meet the stars who do boxing to stay healthy and fit

As we all, celebrities to have extremely hectic schedule, may it be at work or their personal lives and other endeavors. Thus, it’s highly important for them to keep themselves healthy and fit in order for them to keep up with the demands of their lives in and out of the spotlight. And one of the many ways that they’re able to achieve it is through working out, with some of them turning to boxing, since it’s a form of full-body exercise.

Kim Chiu

First on the list is Kim, who has tried boxing as early as 2015. Those who have been following the Chinita Princess on Instagram are surely aware that she lives an active lifestyle as aside from hopping on various adventures whenever her busy schedule permits, she also usually begins her every day by working out – and that includes boxing. In one of her posts, the It’s Showtime host shared that her motivation in working out is how it “will balance you physically and mentally”.

Lovi Poe

There’s definitely no doubt that Lovi is one of the sexiest actresses in Philippine showbiz. And one of her secrets to achieving her gorgeous abs and body is boxing, as what she imparted in her several posts on IG.

In one of her carousel posts, she dedicated one of her boxing sessions to her late dad, King of Philippine Movies Fernando Poe Jr. by posting two clips of her sparring with her coach on the ring, along with the poster of his film “Mano-Mano” and a screengrab of one of his scenes, on his 80th birth anniversary in 2019. The FPJ’s Batang Quiapo actress captioned it, “Got ‘em moves from you, Papa. Kulang nalang ng pompyang punch.”

Paulo Avelino Apart from internalizing his character, Paulo also prepared for his role in the controversial digital series “Linlang” by taking on boxing early this year. He gave us a glimpse of his journey by posting an IG reel and writing in the caption, “Boxing was a different beast of its own. I’ve been recording my training non-stop and reviewing them daily to see my mistakes and how I can improve even more when not training. And it wasn’t easy, especially when I had to start cutting my weight, waking up extra early to work out, going to work, and repeating this cycle since we started the show. It was frustrating and exhausting at times, but I had to be loyal to the journey of my character, and that was my motivation throughout the show.”

Piolo Pascual

He may already be in his late 40s, but it seems that Piolo hasn’t aged even a bit. And one of his secrets to staying youthful is by trying out a variety of sports, such as boxing. In an interview, the “Ultimate Heartthrob” previously said in an interview, “For you to stay long, to have that longevity and to always look your best, you got to do something about it.”

igo Pascual

Just like his dad, Iñigo is also into boxing. He first tried this sport in 2018, which he marked by posting a photo of him on social media. He captioned it, “Boxing teaches you patience and learning to use the right amount of energy. It’s always good to learn new things.”

Albie Casiño

Another young actor to apparently enjoy boxing is Albie, as he even has his own punching bag and other boxing equipment at his home. He’s been sharing photos and videos of his progress on IG, taking pride on his “1%” improvement everyday. The Can’t Buy Me Love actor took his dedication to the sport a step further by competing in his first amateur match back in April 2023.

Jane de Leon

It seems that Jane took on this sport when she portrayed Olympic silver medalist Nesthy Petecio in an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya. The actress had to train and learn the basics in boxing to give viewers a compelling performance.

Anne Curtis

Amidst her busy schedule both in her work commitment and personal life, it truly amazes us that Anne is able to squeeze in working out in her every day routine. Through the years, she has tried a variety of combat sports, which includes boxing. The It’s Showtime host initially considered it as a workout, and eventually became part of her preparation for the action movie “Buy Bust” in 2017.

Andi Eigenmann

Aside from surfing and exercising, Andi has been into boxing as well to get back into shape. It became a part of her postpartum fitness journey, as what she shared on IG. She gave us a peek of one of her training sessions through an IG reel and wrote in the caption, “Always love the feeling after breaking a sweat, through a good boxing.”

Denise Laurel

In early 2022, Denise revealed on IG that boxing helped her stay active during the lock-in tapings of Flower of Evil, with Piolo Pascual’s very own coach as the one who trained her as well. She posted a short IG reel and related in the caption, “Haven’t boxed in 2 and a half years.. I’m super heavy n slow lol but soooo stoked i got to mess around a bit with some [boxing] work here at lock in taping cause i been battling allergies, asthma and super annoying bloating the last 3 days!!! [sic]”
