ABS-CBN Christmas ID 2020: “Ikaw Ang Liwanag At Ligaya” draws praises, rave reactions from netizens

With avid Kapamilya viewers from different parts of the world continuously raving about it on social media, let’s take a look back on the Christmas station IDs of ABS-CBN through the years that truly touched our hearts in this episode of Kapamilya Snaps!

Here’s the complete collection of touching and inspirational Christmas Station IDs aired by ABS-CBN from 2002 to 2019

This annual tradition began in 2002, with the inaugural theme “Isang Pamilya, Isang Puso Ngayong Pasko.” It was comprised by some of the biggest stars throughout the history of Philippine showbiz, such as Vilma Santos, Nora Aunor, Dolphy, and Fernando Poe Jr. The following year, the network released “DisyembRegalo”, which featured the monologue of the late Comedy King regarding the true meaning of the Yuletide season.

Filipinos’ unparalleled value for family and admirable unity despite the differences in language and culture were highlighted in the 2004 Christmas station ID titled “Sabay Tayo, Kapamilya.” The same went for “Magpasaya ng Kapamilya” in 2005, except that the latter was only two-minute long and didn’t include any celebrity – only ordinary people doing simple acts of kindness.

From tugging our hearts, ABS-CBN tickled us in 2006 with the cheery vibe of its “Angat Ang Ligaya Ng Pasko” station ID as it featured Orange and Lemons’ fantastic cover of the Apo Hiking Society hit “Tuloy Na Tuloy Pa Rin Ang Pasko”. It reminded us that the true essence of Christmas is not the festivities but Jesus Christ, so it must be celebrated no matter what our life disposition would be. It starred various Kapamilya actors riding jeepneys, visiting the imprisoned, making orphans smiles, and other manifestations of the true Christmas spirit.

After making us groove and leaving us with LSS (or last song syndrome), the network went on to tug our hearts with the spoken hearty messages delivered by Kapamilya artists for every Filipinos around the world as their way of conveying the sense of community among us in “Walang Mag-iisa Ngayong Pasko” in 2007.

In 2008, we’re able to get to know some of the biggest stars of ABS-CBN in the “May Katuparan Ang Hiling Sa Kapamilyang Kapiling” as they shared their Christmas wishes and fondest memories of the season, with Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo singing a few lines of that year’s anthem at some points of the video. Their responses might be varied, yet it all boils down to the true meaning of the season—granting wishes through a helping hand.

Of course, who would forget the iconic and well-loved “Bro, Ikaw Ang Star Ng Pasko” of 2009? It drew inspiration from the classic teleserye May Bukas Pa that was aired on that same year and the victims of the destructive Typhoon Yolanda. It serves as a reminder for Pinoys that no disaster can ever break our resiliency and faith in God. The SID features ABS-CBN's more than 300 talents, artists, broadcasters, child stars; and our fellow Kapamilya from different walks of life, with KC Concepcion, Piolo Pascual, ASAP Champions and Sessionistas as the voices behind the endearing song.

Pinoy Christmas traditions and values indeed shine bright in “Ngayong Pasko Magniningning Ang Pilipino”. It reminds us that our innate values of love, unity, and dedication are actually the true sources of Pinoy pride. It also brings into forefront the various artists, organizations, teams, and performers, which have boasted Filipino talents here and abroad. Gary Valenciano, Toni Gonzaga, and University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Singers lent their voices for the theme song of the 2010 station ID.

Showcasing how Filipinos celebrate Christmas in different parts of the world, the 2011 CSID “Da Best Ang Pasko Ng Pilipino” was indeed able to highlight how Paskong Pinoy speaks of love regardless of the distance.

Inspired by real, hapless events that devastated the country in the past years, the “Lumiliwanag ang Mundo sa Kwento ng Pasko” in 2012 aims to give hope and cheer to every Filipino which was symbolized by lanterns in various sizes, shapes, and colors. Since lantern is the typical symbol of Christmas here in the Philippines, it was used throughout the whole music video, either as ornament or as the main item for the artists’ gift-giving.

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of ABS-CBN in 2013, the network put into the spotlight the ordinary Kapamilyas whose stories ignited the company's passion. The "Magkasama Tayo sa Kwento ng Pasko" SID paid tribute to different Filipinos with inspiring and success stories, such as the survivor-advocates of the Women's Crisis Center, a war veteran, the residents of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Home for the Aged, the kids of Boys' Institution, brave kids of Child Haus, a Filipino couple in California that speak of true love, and the people of Cebu. Each of the stories was told by a Kapamilya artist who also extended a helping hand. The Voice Philippines coaches Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo, and Lea Salonga led the singing and were joined by their protégés Mitoy Yonting, Klarisse de Guzman, Janice Javier, and Myk Perez.

Enthused by the colloquial Christmas jingle “Thank you, Ang Babait Ninyo”, the 2014 Christmas SID put a different flavor to the street carolers’ anthem by injecting deeper and evocative meaning to it. The Voice Kids Season 1 Top 4 finalists Lyca Gairanod, Darren Espanto, Juan Karlos Labajo, and Darlene Vibares lent their beautiful voices for this. “Thank you, Ang Babait Ninyo” focuses on ordinary people and celebrities expressing their gratitude towards the significant persons in their lives and giving tribute to all those who serve as inspiration and willingly serve others.

Through the ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2015, the Kapamilya stars were able to express their gratitude to countless Filipinos whose stories inspire them in their work and in their personal lives. By showing these moments, they were reminded that all their efforts in making a difference in the lives of others are appreciated and never forgotten. For the first time, three of the most popular loveteams in the archipelago – KathNiel, JaDine, and LizQuen joined forces to spearhead the singing of “Thank You For The Love.”

In 2016, colorful medallions were given away by several Kapamilya stars to inspiring individuals and groups who continue to help others despite their own adversities. Sang by The Voice Philippines coaches Bamboo, Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo, and Sharon Cuneta, and Kids Edition winners Joshua Oliveros, Lyca Gairanod, Elha Nympha, and Antonette Tismo, “Isang Pamilya Tayo Ngayong Pasko” reminds us that as long as we have God in our lives, our hopes and ambitions are going to be alive whatever hardships that may come our way.

The 2017 CSID “Just Love Ngayong Christmas" featured snippets of real people sharing what they have with strangers, helping one another in times of distress, or showing hope and resilience in videos or photos that went viral online and touched the hearts of many people. Stars and artists from ABS-CBN’s News and Entertainment programs and subsidiaries can also be seen writing notes to cheer up and console the people in Marawi City who were stricken by war, as well as doing their own acts of charity.

In times of joy or despair and triumphs or trials, we all go back to where we feel love, comfort, acceptance and hope – our family. That was what the network instilled to us through the 2018 CSID “Family Is Love” by sharing the moving stories of five different families. This also reminds everyone to value and celebrate the love that we have for the ones that we consider as family.

Last year, just in time for the celebration of ABS-CBN’s 65 years of being in service of the Filipino, we’re able to see again some of our Kapamilyas whose stories were featured in the previous Christmas station IDs as they got reunited with their favorite artists in “Family Is Forever”.

And this year, amidst all the challenges of 2020, the network expressed its relentless pursuit of spreading positivity and of being in the service of Filipinos worldwide through the “Ikaw Ang Liwanag At Ligaya” Christmas ID.

Each year may offer a different story, but the message will always be the same – spread joy, keep the faith, remain hopeful, and love unconditionally. Merry Christmas, Kapamilya!
