Kapamilya Snaps: Look back on the first-ever teleserye lead roles of your favorite actors

Before making it big in the entertainment industry, we are well aware how much guts, efforts, and sacrifices every aspirant has to go through. While there are some who are lucky enough to have scored their big breaks as soon as they step on the scene, there are some who have to wait for quite some time before attaining the project or role they’ve been dreaming of.

Take for example the talented actors listed in this Kapamilya Snaps feature who have patiently waited and diligently worked hard to achieve their first-ever teleserye lead roles.

Some actors began their showbiz careers by trying their luck in reality television shows. Pinoy Big Brother alumni Sam Milby, Zanjoe Marudo, Gerald Anderson, Joshua Garcia, and Seth Fedelin may not all be fortunate to be hailed as the Big Winner of their respective batches, but they have indeed succeeded to win our hearts with their irresistible charm and impressive talents.

Sam went on to become an in-demand TV and movie personality after his controversial stint in the inaugural season of PBB, yet it took four years before he finally clinched his first-ever role in the Pinoy adaptation of the Korean drama Only You. The same for Zanjoe, who landed his first lead role in the 2009 series The Wedding three years after being hailed as the 4th Big Placer of Celebrity Edition 1, as well as with Joshua who, after exiting PBB All In in 2014, has astounded fans with his television portrayals, especially his first lead role in the 2017 series The Good Son.

Due to his unmistakable chemistry with housemate and eventual Teen Big Winner Kim Chiu, strings of projects were bestowed them as soon as they went back to the outside world, which included starring in their teleserye debut Sana Maulit Muli in 2007. Meanwhile, PBB Otso alumnus Seth may be shipped with his girl housemates, but he only found his loveteam partner in Andrea Brillantes when he joined Kadenang Ginto in 2019 and went on to spread kilig vibes as they topbilled Huwag Kang Mangamba alongside Kyle Echarri and Francine Diaz.

Speaking of Kyle, his avid supporters have witnessed his astonishing transition from that kiddo who charmed us with his cuteness and singing prowess in The Voice Kids Season 2, to becoming a swooning singer and actor, whose first-ever lead role was the recently-concluded Huwag Kang Mangamba.

Those who grew up in the 90s could probably recall that Jericho Rosales’ ticket to show business was winning a talent search of a noontime variety program. He became a Kapamilya in 1997, went on to appear in a slew of shows and films before landing his first lead role in the classic soap opera Pangako Sa ‘Yo.

On the other hand, we have Kapamilya actors whose swooning charisma and acting prowess were discovered after appearing in several TV shows. A year after having his debut in Gimik 2010, Daniel Padilla was entrusted to headline Growing Up, wherein he was paired with his now reel-and-real life girlfriend Kathryn Bernardo.

Meanwhile, Enrique Gil’s impressive performances in his TV and movie gigs earned him his first-ever lead role in the weekly series Good Vibes in 2011, similar with Donny Pangilinan who clinched his first lead role through the well-loved 2021 series He’s Into Her.

Not many of us arguably know, but Jake Cuenca and JM de Guzman began in showbiz at young ages, but had to stop for unknown reasons and returned when they’re a bit older. After his transfer to ABS-CBN in 2006, Viral Scandal star Jake scored his first lead role in a Kapamilya teleserye in the 2008 action drama Palos. JM, on the other hand, used to be an indie actor before starting his TV acting career in 2010 and nabbing his first-ever lead role as the titular character in Angelito: Ang Batang Ama.

The same with FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano headliner-slash-director Coco Martin who, from being a popular indie artist went on to become a prominent mainstream actor, especially when he became a Kapamilya in 2008. After his stints in a string of series, he finally landed his first main protagonist role in the 2010 series Agimat: Ang Mga Alamat ni Ramon Revilla Presents Tonyong Bayawak.

Last, but definitely not the least, is ultimate heartthrob Piolo Pascual who, from being a budding actor, host, and singer went on to become one of the most sought-after actors of his generation when his capabilities as a leading man was exhibited in the 2001 soap opera Sa Puso Ko Iingatan Ka.

These Kapamilya actors only prove that dedication to your craft, great talent, and admirable personality would really take one a long way. So, keep on reaching for your dreams, Kapamilya!
