They never fail to make us swoon with their handsome looks and remarkable performances in the teleseryes and movies they star in and other programs they appear in. But wait ‘til you witness these Kapamilya heartthrobs play on the hardcourt and exhibit their impressive basketball skills!
In the recent years, Daniel Padilla proved that he’s not only the “king” in the hearts of his adoring fans, but in the Star Magic All-Star Games as well. From accepting challenging roles on-screen, he eventually found himself taking on the critical role of being the captain for Team Red and even landed a spot in the Mythical Five.
His counterpart in Team Blue was Gerald Anderson, who led his squad to championship in the 2018 tourney and was even hailed as the “Most Valuable Player” for two consecutive years. The A Soldier’s Heart star went on to continue his basketball career in the professional league after being drafted into the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) as a player for the Marikina Shoemasters (2018-2019) then to Imus Bandera (2019-present).
The same goes for Love Thy Woman lead actor Xian Lim who, from being a varsity player, went on to play for different pro leagues, including the MPBL where he was drafted by Mandaluyong El Tigre in 2018.
Aside from Xian, ex-Pinoy Big Brother housemate Axel Torres is also a part of Mandaluyong El Tigre. He’s actually not the only one in their family who is involved in this sport, since his brothers are star players for the De La Salle University Green Archers as well.
Walang Hanggang Paalam star Zanjoe Marudo also used to be a varsity player for the San Sebastian High School basketball team, which also opened the door for him to show business after someone suggested that he join a modelling contest during one of their games. He had the chance to come back to his first love by joining the Star Magic All-Star Games in the previous years.
Another former varsity player to be bestowed the opportunity to return to the hardcourt is Donny Pangilinan, who used to be a small forward for Brent International School from 2012 to 2016 before taking part in the said celebrity tournament as one of the Star Magic Warriors.
Fueled by their intense love for the sport, Ejay Falcon, Zeus Collins, Ronnie Alonte also accepted the challenge of playing for the Star Magic All-Star Games. Ejay and Ronnie were teammates in the Star Magic Warriors, while Zeus helped his It’s Showtime family to their championship bid in the friendly match. Ronnie was also part of a special team formed by Star Magic for an exhibition game in Taiwan, while Zeus was hailed as one of the Mythical Five.
The same went for Jerome Ponce and The Gold Squad member Kyle Echarri who played for the 2019 Star Magic Dribblers New Breed event.
How about you, Kapamilya? Are you also fond of basketball as much as these celebrities do?
