Kapamilya Snaps: Kapamilya actresses as mighty superheroines, fierce villainesses

For sure, at one point in our lives, we have dreamed of becoming superheroes and possess supernatural powers just like those we’ve seen on movies, series, and comic books we ardently supported, watched, and read.

However, we all know that it’s highly impossible. Thus, some of us just contented themselves in donning costumes that are either inspired by or exactly the same with the iconic attires worn by their favorite, powerful fictional characters. And in this episode of Kapamilya Snaps, let’s find out who among our favorite Kapamilya actresses wowed us as they channeled the inner superheroines in them in various events through the years.

Apparently, Wonder Woman has a lot of fans in our Kapamilya female celebs as her famous red, blue, and gold ensemble has been a staple get-up in program numbers and costume parties. Kathryn Bernardo and Sarah Geronimo wore different versions of it for their respective ASAP numbers in 2017, while Jessy Mendiola sported the same in one of her opening numbers for Banana Sundae.

Stunning the madlang people as the popular Amazon warrior, Anne Curtis had herself dressed in that same garb during It’s Showtime’s Halloween celebration in 2012. Tippy Dos Santos did the same for MYX’s Halloween episode in 2017.

Meanwhile, Bea Alonzo, Pia Wurtzbach, Isabelle Daza, Barbie Imperial, and Heaven Peralejo graced various Halloween costume parties in the previous years as the superheroine. In fact, channeling the inner Wonder Woman in her bestowed the Pamilya Ko actress with the “Sexiest Costume” award in last year’s Black Magic event of ABS-CBN’s talent arm Star Magic.

Sashaying in the familiar yellow-and-green jumpsuit and short jacket of mutant Rogue in separate Halloween events were Nadine Lustre and Goin’ Bulilit alumna Trina “Hopia” Legaspi, but the only difference was that the On The Wings of Love star came with her then reel-to-real sweetheart James Reid. Her friend Yassi Pressman also used get dressed as a member of X-Men, Jean Grey, for an ASAP intermission number in 2018.

As Brie Larson received positive feedbacks for her portrayal of Captain Marvel last year, Maymay Entrata also wowed us with her fantastic transformation into the mighty superheroine.

Showing us how our favorite male superheroes would look like if they’re females were Coleen Garcia, Kitkat, Maxine Medina, and Pia Wurtzbach.

Months after their wedding in 2018, Coleen and her husband Billy Crawford thrilled us when they dressed up as the formidable tandem of Robin the Wonder Boy and Batman during their trip in Hong Kong. Kitkat paraded in last year’s Black Magic as female Green Lantern Jessica Cruz, while beauty queens Maxine Medina and Pia Wurtzbach both mesmerized us with their different takes as female counterparts of Captain America in two separate events.

Veering away from the slew of Western superheroines in this list, Arci Muñoz captivated us when she appeared in Star Magic’s Halloween Party last year as her favorite anime character Sailor Moon.

Of course, Philippines also boasts its own superheroines! Who would forget when superstar Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo soared as Krystala in the fantasy-drama series of the same title in 2005? Another female warrior invaded our screens 12 years after in 2017 via the Wansapanataym Presents Amazing Ving, wherein Ellen Adarna appeared as Super Bing.

Certainly, the iconic superheroine Darna would not be missing in this list as several Kapamilya actresses also channeled her in various instances. The Megastar Sharon Cuneta put on the red-and-gold ensemble in the 1986 film “Captain Barbell” starred by Edu Manzano, Chinita Princess Kim Chiu for her ASAP production number in 2013, while Andrea Brillantes for an episode of the 2013 teleserye Annaliza.

If there are heroines, there are definitely villainess! In last year’s Black Magic event, Ritz Azul attended as Hela, the Asgardian Goddess of Death; Pamilya Ko’s Kira Balinger as Harley Quinn of Suicide Squad; and Queen of Hearts Kathryn Bernardo as seductive temptress Poison Ivy. Meanwhile, Maika Rivera, Loisa Andalio, and Yen Santos all decided to be cladded in Catwoman, slick black garb and cat ears.

These Kapamilya actresses may not have the supernatural strength like the fictional characters they portrayed, but they have the beauty, smarts, talents and influence that could inspire and empower a lot of people.
