Kapamilya Snaps Singers and Actors

In the ever-evolving world of entertainment, one should not only be strikingly good-looking and/or captivatingly charming in order to thrive, but he/she needs to possess talent as well. While mastering one skill is already enough, there are artists who have excelled in two.

Meet the Kapamilya singers who prove that they are not only great in music, but also have impressive dramatic chops, too!

A certified kontesera, Angeline Quinto’s ticket to showbiz was winning the singing competition Star Power: Sharon’s Search for the Next Pop Superstar in 2011. From being the “Queen of Teleserye Theme Songs” who recorded the official soundtracks for TV shows like Juan Dela Cruz (2013) and The Legal Wife (2014), she went on to partake in several acting projects.

She had her acting debut in the 2013 series Kahit Konting Pagtingin, which was succeeded by her acting stints in Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon (2014), Maalaala Mo Kaya, Nathaniel (2015), FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano (2017), and Huwag Kang Mangamba. Aside from simply landing roles, she also sang the theme songs of these teleseryes.

Another suki of singing contests, Sarah Geronimo went on to become one of the biggest OPM superstars. After winning a talent search in 2002, her debut album Popstar: A Dream Come True was immediately released the following year. She has countless hits and music awards under her belt, and on top of that are equally memorable acting performances that were recognized as well.

The Popstar Royalty starred in several TV programs like Sarah the Teen Princess (2004), Bituing Walang Ningning (2006), Pangarap Na Bituin (2007), 1DOL (2010), and few episodes of MMK.

Kicking off her musical journey as a singer in St. Vincent Ferrer Parish Church in Bogo, Cebu, Vina Morales was soon discovered and was tapped to perform in the Cebu Pop Music Festival. After winning the grand prize, she was offered a recording contract and the rest, as they say, is history.

She may be known for her beautiful, distinct voice that many have impersonated through the years, but the veteran singer is just as successful in acting, too. Among her most recent appearances were in Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita (2015), Born For You (2016), Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Araw Gabi (2018), Sandugo (2019), and several episodes of Ipaglaban Mo and MMK. She will also take part in the upcoming series Marry Me, Marry You.

Starting off her showbiz career as one of the members of National Artist Ryan Cayabyab’s singing group 14K, Jolina Magdangal went solo and gained recognition for recording movie soundtracks that opened many opportunities for her, including a career in acting.

The Magandang Buhay host was among ensemble cast of the youth-oriented program Ang TV (1992), Gimik (1996), Richard Loves Lucy (1998), Labs Ko Si Babe (1999), and Arriba, Arriba! (2000). And after 15 years of working in another network, she went back to ABS-CBN in 2015 and had FlordeLiza as her comeback project.

Another product of a reality singing contest, Regine Velasquez got her shot at fame after winning the amateur talent search Ang Bagong Kampeon in 1984. She became well-known for her powerful vocals and effortless high notes across Asia, which gave her the “Asia’s Songbird” title.

Apart from unfailingly blowing our minds with her singing prowess, she has also impressed us in her acting performances on TV and the big screen. And one of her most remarkable stints was in the “Lobo” episode of MMK in 2002, which bestowed her the Best Single Performance by an Actress in a Lead Role accolade during the 16th Star Awards for TV.

Like Regine, her husband and fellow ASAP Natin ‘To host Ogie Alcasid is also among the OPM legends that younger artists look up to. He maybe best known as a singer-songwriter who has produced multiple classics throughout his over three-decade showbiz career, he also ventured in acting.

He has starred as well in multiple films and TV shows, with the “Flyers” episode of MMK as one of his recent dramatic stints.

Iñigo Pascual, on the other hand, is undoubtedly one of today’s rising OPM artists. Aside from his handsome looks and irresistible charm, his swoon-worthy voice has made it easy for him to capture a lot of hearts, such as when he released his smash hit “Dahil Sa ‘Yo”. He also attempted to go international through his latest album Options.

Aside from his musical endeavors, he also works on his acting career. He appeared in several big screen projects and TV shows, such as several episodes of MMK and the afternoon soap opera And I Love You So (2015).

From being a rockstar who’s famous as the vocalist of pop-rock band Callalily, Kean Cipriano also boasts an impressive résumé as an actor. He began his acting career in 2010 by starring in a slew of series in another network and got cast in a several movies as well.

With his captivating charm and enthralling voice, it was easy for Sam Concepcion to capture the hearts of audiences when he joined the singing contest Little Big Star in 2006. His triumphant finish in the Big Division of the first season was quickly followed by his first album and a slew of television appearances.

He had the opportunity to continue acting, which was actually the first thing he did through joining plays prior to entering the industry, when he was cast in various series, such as Good Vibes (2011), Mirabella (2014), and The Killer Bride (2019).

Last, but definitely not the least, is Nadine Lustre, who’s among the most celebrated actresses of her generation. She starred in a number of blockbuster films that earned her recognitions from different award-giving bodies, as well as in two successful Kapamilya dramas On The Wings of Love (2015) and Till I Met You (2016).

But before establishing herself as an actress, her avid fans surely know that she started her showbiz career as a member of the girl group Pop Girls and went solo in 2014 with the release of her self-titled EP.

While singing and acting are two different fields that require different skills, these artists prove that it’s indeed impossible to do both!
