Kim Chiu and Tony Labrusca won’t let anything kill the thrill of Halloween vibes as they treat fans with horror digital movie, “U-Turn.”
“U-Turn” revolves around Donna (Kim Chiu), a journalist who has always dreamt of making it big. She did through her sensationalized reports that will eventually turn viral. But karma would also do its works when Donna’s twin brother commits suicide and became a victim of sensationalized reporting.
Guilty and suspicious, Donna investigates his death with the help of boyfriend Robin (Tony Labrusca) and police officer Kevin (JM de Guzman). She discovers one common piece of evidence among a series of death including that of his twin brother – all of them moved the barrier of a blind curve and made an illegal U-turn.
Helmed by Director Derick Cabrido, who directed the 2019 award-winning horror film, “Clarita,” the Filipino version of “U-Turn” is more explosive and the sequences more fast-paced.
With the release of yet another horror genre under Kim’s filmography, people are tagging her as the new Millennial Horror Queen. She’s quick to downplay the praises. “Nagkataon lang. Ako lang kasi ‘yung nagpalabas ng horror movie ngayon under Star Cinema,” she said.
It’s Kim and Tony’s first time working together and they are all praise of each other’s professionalism. They would echo their comments on the fun times on the set. They said all cast members were easy to work with.
The full-length horror film was shot in the middle of a pandemic, something Kim and Tony are no longer strangers to and truly grateful for. They know jobs are precious nowadays. But in the “new normal,” workdays are swaddled in fears, strict limitations, and maximum health precaution.
Not only have they experienced pandemic-related challenges but they also encountered real paranormal stories on the set. Kim’s photo with an alleged “tikbalang” recently went viral. In that photo, Kim could be seen just sitting on a chair inside an old house which was one of their shooting locations.
While ordinary people wouldn’t easily point out the unknown element, apparently, Kim’s sister, Lakam, knows a psychic healer who spotted the mysterious creature.
“Meron doong bed tapos ayoko ‘yung bed, parang may something, natatakot ako.
Joining Kim, JM and Tony in the fim are Miel Espinosa, Jojit Lorenzo, Alex Medina, Jerry Ohara, Simon Ibarra, Mercedes Cabral, Almira Muhlach, Sky Quizon, Via Antonio, Martin del Rosario, Cris Villonco and Cris Villanueva.
