JM de Guzman identifies with his character in Stay-At-Home Stories: “Tol”

For sure, avid viewers of the well-loved primetime teleserye Pamilya Ko already miss seeing the up-and-rising on-screen tandem of Doc Pia Dela Paz and Chico Mabunga, or more popularly known as #TeamPico, impeccably portrayed by Alyssa Muhlach and JM De Guzman.

Thus, we recently caught up with them in the latest episode of Kapamilya Chat Live via Zoom that was simultaneously streamed in the official YouTube Channel and Facebook page of ABS-CBN Entertainment on Thursday, May 28.

The interview commenced with a hearty “kumustahan”, wherein both of them narrated how they have been doing and coping up in the past 74 days of community quarantine. Alyssa recalled going out only once to go to the grocery and divulged doing donation drives online since she can’t do outreach activities because of her fear to acquire the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). On the other hand, despite having the same fear, JM has been apparently busy distributing relief goods to our less fortunate fellows as his way of giving back to the renewed life and opportunities bestowed to him.

Both of them also went on to impart the things that have been keeping hem sane while stuck at home. While the 23-year-old beauty queen-turned-actress has been spending most of her time bonding with her mom and two sisters and completing an online certificate course she’s taking up, the 31-year-old seasoned actor has been living alone in his condo and doing everything to maintain his good disposition and fight his anxieties. Besides, he was also included in the iWant Originals movie “Love Lockdown and the Stay At Home Stories short flick “’Tol.”

When asked if they’re ready for the new normal once Metro Manila will be placed in General Community Quarantine (GCQ) starting on June 1, Alyssa firmly said “no” based on the articles she read about COVID-19 and went on to remind the public regarding the basic safety guidelines. Meanwhile, JM is still unsure about it, but what he’s certain of is that he will prepare for it. He related as well the lesson inculcated to them during his stay in the rehab, which is to “adapt and deal with it”.

The actor-singer then went on to narrate the preparations he did for “’Tol.”, which he starred alongside Pinoy Big Brother Otso alumnus and Ang Lihim Ni Ligaya star Argel Saycon, and how he was able to relate with his character who, just like him, suddenly vanished in the lives of his siblings. It premiered last May 26 on Online Kapamilya Shows (OKS).

They also talked about his latest single “Huling Liham” and its music video wherein Alyssa stars as his ladylove. JM revealed that the song, which was written by his former ASAP Jambayan co-performer Moira Dela Torre and her husband Jason Hernandez, was a product of his request to the renowned songstress for them to collaborate and is connected to her hit “Tagpuan”.

Alyssa, on the other hand, recounted their fun shoot of the music video in a secluded place in Zambales last February and said that many people will certainly relate with the song. She vowed to also create her rendition of “Huling Liham”, as requested by their adoring fans.

Of course, they didn’t forget to tackle “Pamilya Kowentuhan,” which features both of them and their Pamilya Ko co-stars and can be streamed live every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 5pm on oks.abs-cbn.com.

#TeamPiCo also played two games, much to their followers delight and kilig. First was the “’Tol Game”, wherein they had to choose who among the Kapamilya actors, whose photos were flashed on the screen, they would want to be their brothers. And the second one was the “Compatibility Challenge”, which tested their compatibility as they answered personal questions about each other.
