Teleserye enthusiasts will soon witness a first-rate acting spectacle in the upcoming series “Linlang,” with Diamond Star Maricel Soriano and Kapamilya leading man JM De Guzman in the cast.

Before that, they collaborated on their individual YouTube channels talking about their craft and taking on fun challenges. On JM’s vlog, he got an acting workshop with the veteran actress as they alternately deliver iconic movie lines based on the ‘emotions’ dictated by the spinning wheel.

JM got the ball rolling with Bea Alonzo’s character’s unforgettable dialogue in a confrontation extravaganza with her sisters played Angel Locsin, Shaina Magdayao, and Toni Gonzaga in the Star Cinema film “Four Sisters and a Wedding” uttered happily. Verdict: Maricel-approved!

In 1982, Nora Aunor said what would become one of the classic lines to shape Pinoy pop culture in the Ishmael Bernal film “Himala,” which JM copied while acting scared. He wasn’t satisfied with his performance, thus Maricel gave a piece of advice about trusting his instinct as an actor. She imparted that sometimes she’s doubtful, too, but unless the director asks for a retake, that means she delivered what was expected. This reminded JM of another one of Maricel’s nuggets of wisdom: “Play with your heart and nothing will go wrong.”

Thus, in the next round, she kept it playfully honest and told JM, “Nasaan ang pangangasim do’n? Ulitin mo dahil wala akong nakitang pangangasim,” when he uttered Anne Curtis’ dialogue about being dull in the movie “The Gifted” with a sour-faced expression.

For Maricel, the spinning wheel chose Carmi Martin’s immortalized ‘hugot’ warning her daughter (Cristine Reyes) to fight for her territory: “Ang mundo ay parang isang malaking Quiapo. Maraming snatcher. Maaagawan ka.” Carmi’s ‘gigil’ was on point in the original, but in Maricel’s version, she did it as if struggling to go to the toilet.

The wheel sensed who Maricel is, thus giving her the iconic “Huwag mo akong ma-Terry, Terry” which she uttered in the movie “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin” But, this time, she did it with a happy expression.

She had the privilege to work with Fernando Poe Jr., thus she was thrilled to render her version of his dialogue “Isang bala ka lang” as if she just won the lottery.

Lastly, they re-enacted Vilma Santos and Carlo Aquino’s “Akala mo lang wala pero meron, meron, meron” scene from the 1998 movie “Bata, Bata Paano Ka Ginawa?” We all know it didn’t end well for Carlo’s character as he was slapped for raising his voice at his mother. But, to JM, it would be a “gift” and “honor” to be slapped by the one and only Taray Queen. “Nasampal na ako ni Inay,” he rejoiced after their re-enactment.

JM was admittedly intimidated when told he is sharing a project with Maricel, one of the stars he and his family look up to. But excitement won over upon experiencing how sweet and caring the veteran actress is behind the cameras and now he always looks forward to bonding with her on set, “’Pag pupunta ako ng taping, si Inay i-che-check ko lagi ‘yan. ‘Nandito ba si Inay? Yes! Nandiyan si Inay.’”

We can’t wait for these two drama geniuses’ acting sparring in the upcoming Kapamilya series Linlang”!
