Two weeks after she officially became a Kapamilya, Janine Gutierrez enthusiastically faced some members of the press through the virtual media conference held for her on Tuesday, February 2, which was livestreamed on the ABS-CBN Entertainment YouTube channel and Facebook pages of ABS-CBN and Dreamscape Entertainment.
Hosted by MJ Felipe, the event tagged #WelcomeKapamilyaJanine commenced with Corporate Communications Head Kane Choa expressing his gratitude to her for believing in ABS-CBN and wishing her ‘good luck’ on her new journey in the network. Media Relations Manager Aaron Domingo and AdProm Head Eric John Salut, who were also the facilitators, delivered their warm greetings and well-wishes for her as well.
When asked by the host what made her decide to still transfer despite the loss of legislative franchise and limited projects in the previous months, Janine simply hailed ABS-CBN and expressed how happy, excited, and proud she is of being here.
“ABS-CBN will always be ABS-CBN kung ano man ang sitwasyon. I’m so happy to be here talaga as in, walang biro. I think you can see it naman e, as in walang echos. I’m really so happy to be here and to be given the opportunity to be a Kapamilya. At bukod sa lahat, lagi kong sinasabi na excited talaga ako na makilala lahat ng Kapamilya pati mga Kapamilya abroad. And there’s so many things happening in ABS-CBN,” she enthused.
Claiming that her decision to transfer is a personal choice, Janine further elaborated it in her response to the question of one of the members of the press.
“Ako, personally, I’m amazed at how despite the situation, ABS-CBN comes up with so much quality content and siyempre ‘yong mga Kapamilya ‘di bumibitaw, ‘di ba? Especially now, even ASAP is on TV5 and sabi n’yo everything is also digital. Ngayon meron tayong mga Kapamilya from other parts of the world na kasama natin ngayon. So, I feel like the opportunities are so limitless din po talaga ngayon,” she said.
Then she added, “Siguro I’m a stage din in my career na ‘di na naman ako teenager and I feel like some opportunities only come once and I really wanted to grab this opportunity and make new projects, be part of new stories, work with new people. Siguro kahit ano pa man ang sitwasyon, masaya talaga ako nandito ako sa ABS-CBN.”
Just like any Kapamilya newcomer, the 31-year-old award-winning actress was also quizzed regarding the stars who she looks forward to working with. She wasn’t able to hide her excitement as she mentioned It’s Showtime mainstay Anne Curtis, Iba ‘Yan host Angel Locsin, Walang Hanggang Paalam leading lady Angelica Panganiban, and Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin stars Jodi Sta. Maria and Iza Calzado.
Meanwhile, when it comes to leading men, she wishes to be in one ABS-CBN project with Paulo Avelino, Enchong Dee, Jericho Rosales, JC Santos, Carlo Aquino, and Gerald Anderson.
She couldn’t help but fangirl over Liza Soberano, who is the one-half of her favorite love team LizQuen, and Charlie Dizon, who she praised for her top-caliber performance in the Metro Manila Film Festival 2020 entry “Fangirl,” as well.
When asked regarding her impression to the Kapamilya network before she became part of it, Janine disclosed that “it has always been impressive” for her.
“Kahit naman anong station ka, meron ‘yang respeto bilang artista na alam mo kung maganda ‘yong kwento, kung magaling ‘yong pagka-arte. And as I said, madami akong iniidolo rito, so I also really watch the shows,” she revealed.
She continued, “It’s very exciting because nafe-feel ko ‘yong talagang sobrang passionate ‘yong mga tao rito sa ABS-CBN about sa stories and about bringing forward new stories, and talagang reaching out to what really people want to see. Kung ano ‘yong parang pulso ng tao ngayon, kung mas gusto ba nila ng heartfelt na kuwento. Ang lalim ng pagkakakilala sa Kapamilya. Kung ano ba ang hinahanap ng isang Kapamilya sa telebisyon. And I think it’s so amazing na ibibigay natin ‘yong gusto ng Kapamilya.”
Janine also addressed the possibility of her playing the iconic role of Valentina, the notorious antagonist of Darna, in the highly anticipated TV adaptation of the popular action-fantasy story, which was spurred by the tweets of Kapamilya viewers.
“It’s so interesting to me kasi, of course, I’m a fan of Darna. I’m a fan of all the old films. Actually, parang meron akong napanood before na lola ko nag-Valentina e. I’m not sure, pero parang no’ng bata ako. So, it’s interesting at siyempre flattered ako na nakikita ako ng mga tao na mapasama sa gano’ng proyekto. So, I don’t know. We’ll see,” she said.
While this is still not sure yet, she revealed that we can expect to see her on ASAP Natin ‘To and in a yet-to-be-disclosed teleserye and movie project.
With regards to the reactions of her bosses and colleagues in her former network, she revealed that they’ve been very supportive and happy for her.
“Maswerte ako kasi lahat sila masaya para sa akin, even my former bosses [and] all the people I’ve worked with. I really feel their support up to now, na no matter where you are, hindi mawawala ‘yong pinagsamahan and they really wished me well. So sobrang thankful, thankful, thankful talaga ako sa lahat ng nagpadala ng suporta at ‘congratulations’”.
The mediacon wrapped up with Janine imparting what her mindset is right now as she’s set to start her grind as a certified Kapamilya artist.
“Best foot forward, hardwork, at matuto sa lahat ng mga poste dito sa ABS-CBN, lahat ng writers, creatives, directors. I feel that I’m in such good hands and ibibigay ko talaga ‘yong best ko para sa kanilang lahat at sa lahat ng ating mga Kapamilya.”
It can be recalled that it was last January 15 when Janine signed an exclusive under ABS-CBN in the presence of his manager Leo Dominguez; network bosses CEO and President Carlo Katigbak, Chairman Mark Lopez, Chief Operating Officer for Broadcast Cory V. Vidanes, and Chief Finance Officer Ric Tan and Dreamscape Entertainment Head Deo Endrinal.
Welcome to the family, Janine!
