Erik Santos talks about Christmas, fighting burnout with gratitude and support system

Erik Santos is making Christmas a little bittersweet as he drops his new single “Paskong Kayakap Ka.”

As the world slowly heals from COVID-19, Erik and some fellow artists are flying to Dubai for a Christmas show. Christmas time is one of his most favorite days of the year, hence making sure to celebrate it with his music. “Paskong Kayakap Ka” is his fifth yuletide single and the idea just came out on a random evening while he was struggling to doze off.

He told Star Music’s Jonathan Manalo about his wish to record a new Christmas song. While he wasn’t expecting since Jonathan is a busy man, the latter came up with a whole composition in just days. Erik expressed his appreciation for Jonathan’s generosity, saying he’s proud to see the songwriter-producer evolve in his craft. Jonathan gives room for creative collaboration and is very helpful to his artists, thus Erik’s unfailing excitement when working with him.

Although there are days when burnout kicks in, Erik bounces back by keeping a grateful heart. He would remind himself that everything he has used to be just a dream, “Binigay sa akin ng Panginoon ‘yung pangarap ko, bakit ako magco-complain? Bakit ako mapapagod?”

Besides, a lot of aspirants wish to be in his place. Since he’s given the opportunities, he might as well deliver his best. Apart from gratitude, a solid support system also keeps him motivated. He has his family to thank for.

The King of OPM Theme Songs is happy to see the local music scene thriving. He appreciates the existence of social platforms that help Filipinos showcase their talents. Speaking of new breed of artists, Erik wants to collaborate with Angela Ken, the voice behind trending life anthem “Ako Naman Muna” whose music journey started with a viral TikTok video. He also mentioned Moira Dela Torre, Inigo Pascual, Darren Espanto, and SB19 because of their world-class talents.
