You’d probably remember Cha-Cha Canete as the tiny, uber-cute ‘bulilit’ who rose to popularity since appearing in a townhouse commercial. She eventually joined Goin’ Bulilit but left the limelight to pursue her studies. In this edition of Kapamilya Chat, we’re catching up with Cha-Cha – ‘bulilit’ no more at 16!
Cha-Cha is focused on her schooling. But while taking her online classes, she makes sure to sustain and constantly improve her singing prowess by taking vocal lessons. Yes, pretty young Cha-Cha is a music gem!
Apart from her dazzling performance on Tawag ng Tanghalan Celebrity Edition and other trending online videos, she was first declared champion in the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in 2013. She also placed second overall in the Europop competition held in Berlin in 2015.
The talented Kapamilya charms us anew with a Christmas single titled “Pasko Pa Rin.” Even with all the unprecedented changes brought about by the pandemic, the spirit of Christmas will always remain the same. Yuletide celebrations may be different this year but there remain a lot of reasons to feel joyful and optimistic. After all, Christmas is about remembering the Savior’s birth.
“Ang totoong meaning talaga ng Christmas for me is nagse-celebrate tayo ng birth of Christ. Hindi naman tayo nagse-celebrate ng birthday dahil lang sa party. Sine-celebrate natin dahil nabuhay ang tao, they get to live another year. So, parang gano’n din ang Christmas,” she said.
The young singer took inspiration from her kababayans suffering during this crisis. “Kahit mahirap ‘yung mga nangyayari ngayon, sana ‘yung song na ‘to ay magpaalala sa kanila na stay strong lang. Huwag nilang hahayaan ma-dampen ang kanilang spirits. Aahon din naman tayo, matatapos din naman ‘to kaya stay positive lang, pasko ay pasko pa rin,” she added.
Cha-Cha, whose family’s holiday traditions include attending mass and enjoying amusement parks, believes that Christmas doesn’t always have to be extravagant. So, this year, they’re planning for a virtual reunion. If there are people she considers her light and joy, they would have to be her family and loved ones.
Cha-Cha invites us all to check out the music video and sing along the karaoke version of “Pasko Pa Rin.” This new upbeat Christmas anthem is also available in digital music stores.
