Fearless and up for any challenge, Arci Munoz wants to be the best she can be in everything she does. And this boldness makes her quite the Jill of All Trades of showbiz. In this edition of Kapamilya React, the multi-hyphenate brings us back to her most well-rounded small screen portrayals over the years.
Pasion De Amor (2015)
It can’t be denied that her star shined brighter since calling herself a bonafide Kapamilya. Arci credits her home network’s passion and mastery in teleseryes for her notable improvement as an actress. She has known better since starring in her first Kapamilya series, Pasion De Amor, in 2015.
“Simula nang pumasok ako sa ABS-CBN, ibang klase kasi ang approach nila sa lahat ng bagay, ang dami kong natutunan sa tamang pag-arte. Hindi ako masyadong marunong diyan sa Pasion, nangangapa pa ako, parang ginagawa ko lang kung ano ‘yung nararamdaman ko,” she looked back.
Since the ‘firsts’ will always remain fresh in one’s memory, Arci has adorable anecdotes to share about her co-stars like her leading man Jake Cuenca’s slipping blooper. “Parang sa warehouse, then, naalala ko pa nadulas si Jake. Sobrang seryosong eksena tapos ‘pag walk out, nadulas,” she said, laughing.
Pasion De Amor followed the story of love and revenge between the Samonte brothers played by Jake, Ejay Falcon, and Joseph Marco and the Elizondo sisters given life by Arci, Ellen Adarna, and Coleen Garcia.
Magpahanggang Wakas (2016)
After her breathtaking performance as Norma in Pasion De Amor, Arci was tapped to play leading lady opposite Jericho Rosales in the heavy drama Magpahanggang Wakas. By this time, Arci has already learned the complexities of romance dramas but what’s new to her was sharing intense onscreen rivalry with seasoned actress Gelli De Belen.
Among the plethora of fierce catfights, the scene where she shoved Gelli’s face in a cake topped with live worms is one of the most notable. Arci was admittedly holding back that she got scolded by her directors. She was scared despite Gelli giving her the go signal to execute the violent scenes.
“Dito sa Magpahanggang Wakas ako pinaka na-challenge. ‘Yang part na ‘yan, kinausap ako ni Direk na, ‘Ito na nga, oh, si Ms. Gelli hinahayaan niyang ibuhos mo ‘yung galit mo sa kanya.’ Napaka-generous niyang artista. Siyempre naghe-hesitate ako, eh. Si Ms. Gelli ‘yun, eh. Medyo napagsabihan pa ako na naghesitate ako,” she said of that cake scene.
Magpahanggang Wakas chronicled the love story of Arci and Jericho’s characters, Aryann and Waldo, respectively, and all the trials and series of tragic events they had to endure before finally fulfilling a promise once made.
Since I Found You (2017)
After her successful team-up with Jericho, Arci found her way to Piolo Pascual in the feel-good series Since I Found You where she played the 20-something intern who fell in love with her 40-year-old boss portrayed by the Ultimate Heartthrob.
Of course, it’s every actress’ dream to act as Piolo’s leading lady but to actually be friends with him doubles up the blessing. They share cosmic compatibility. They have the same birthday and Arci thinks this is one of the reasons why they jive well, apart from the actor’s genuine kindness.
“Si Piolo napakadaling pakisamahan niyan. Actually, ‘di mo siya kailangan pakisamahan, talagang naturally flowing. Pareho kami ng wavelength. Pareho kami ng utak. Papi is one of my most favorite human beings in the world. Napakabuting tao niyan,” she talked about Piolo.
Pegged into doing heavy dramas in the past, Arci considers Since I Found You as something refreshing. “Sobrang gaan ng soap na ‘yan. Sobrang thankful ako na ginawa ko ‘yang soap na ‘yan. For a change makita naman ‘yung lighter side na hindi natin usually nagagawa sa mga soaps ngayon. I’m really glad that I was able to share that side of me,” she added.
Walang Hanggang Paalam (2020)
The gorgeous Kapamilya currently plays Sam in the primetime series Walang Hanggang Paalam alongside Paulo Avelino, Angelica Panganiban, and JC Santos. She takes on the role of a criminal investigative agent, thus the action-packed scenes.
This is quite an echo of her real-life penchant for physical activities. She’s been into boxing, kung fu, and muay thai since she was a kid that’s why she enjoys doing action scenes a lot. Although she’s no expert, Arci can make her physical scenes totally engrossing by giving them the right form and ‘attitude.’
“Pangarap kong makasapak talaga, eh,” she joked about punching JC for a scene. In that episode, Caloy (JC), drunk and in love, chided Sam (Arci) for still keeping her feelings for Emman (Paulo) who can’t love her back while he’s there willing to give her what she deserves. Hurt and humiliated, Sam knocked him out with a single punch.
Arci shared they were all trying to act drunk before that take, especially Paulo who wishes to trade characters with JC. “Si Pau, gustong-gusto niya ‘yung character ni JC. Gusto niya maging Caloy kaya tinuturuan niya si JC kung paano umarte nang lasing. Lahat kami nagta-try umarte nang lasing.”
