The fresh tandem of Piolo Pascual and Pia Wurtzbach is finally happening in the newest Kapamilya sitcom My My Papa Pi on March 19. We got to see the full trailer, plus talked with cast members Anthony Jennings and Alora Sasam in this episode of Kapamilya Chat.
In the story of My Papa Pi, twin brothers with different personalities played by Piolo and Pepe Herrera will bring good vibes in the colorful Barangay Mapag-Asa. Also part of that happy community are Anthony and Alora’s respective characters, Harvey, the rapping lover boy, and Krizy the fortune-teller wannabe.
One thing to love about the show is the cast members’ fun chemistry whether on or off the screen. Anthony said he’s roommates with Pepe, who may be an all-out comedian on TV but has so much sense and deep thoughts about life. Alora butted in, “Para talaga silang kambal ni Papa P in real life kasi pareho silang mag-isip – mga meditation, healthy living. Nagkakatugma sila du’n.”
She then talked about working with Piolo, saying she’s heard so much about his good-heartedness but it’s different to experience it first-hand, “May resibo na rin ako sa pagiging humble at mabait niya.”
Fangirl moments are of course inevitable when Piolo is around. Alora revealed the hunk actor asked them to tone it down because he also feels awkward. Yet, the girls can’t help it, “Siyempre first time namin siyang makatrabaho. Iba talaga si Papa P lalo na sa personal. Hindi mo talaga matanggal ‘yung pagka-starstruck mo sa kanya. At saka ang bango! Alam mo ‘pag nasa set siya.” Sometimes they’d even enjoy his pheromone by sniffing his used clothes.
Piolo is like a mentor to them as well, especially to Anthony, “Parang naging kuya ko si Papa P. Ang dami niyang naturo sa akin off-cam. Lagi siyang nagga-guide sa akin talaga.”
Sweet words were also given to Pia, who never showed a diva-esque attitude onset. “Talagang nagre-reach out siya,” Alora said. The Miss Universe 2015 title-holder poured all her effort in the show, and her bruises and wounds serve as proof.
On working with Cathy Garcia-Molina, Alora jestingly said it’s an honor to be scolded by the esteemed director. Kidding aside, she shared how Direk Cathy dives into the details of every scene, “Ganun pala siya ka-detalye sa eksena lalo na comedy. Kasi siyempre lahat kami iba-iba kami ng timing bilang mga komedyante. Pero siyempre mag-a-adjust ka sa vision ng direktor.”
It’s challenging but a good training at the same time, “May natututunan ka every eksena, na may mas ipu-push pa pala, mas may ikakatawa pa pala ‘yung eksena kasi ito ‘yung pinapagawa ni Direk Cathy. Makikita mo ‘yung passion niya, ‘yung energy niya, parang hindi siya napapagod.”
Anthony added, “May times na nagdidirek siya kahit masakit ‘yung ulo niya, hindi namin siya naririnig na magalit. Relaxed lang siya, actually.” He worked with Direk Cathy in his first lead movie role “Love at First Stream,” which also has rom-com vibes, so he already trusts her creativity. “Minsan ipapagawa niya ‘yung isang bagay na parang hindi ako ‘to. Pero ‘pag nakita mo na sa screen kung ano ‘yung pinapagawa niya, makikita mo na ito ‘yung utak ng direktor. Mas gumaganda talaga ‘yung eksena, mas nabibigyan ng kulay.”
Anthony and Alora have pretty much got the hang of comedy, although it can be tricky at times as comedians have their own timing. But Alora thinks working with different directors and co-stars help sharpen her skills.
Anthony believes comedy is more difficult when forced, so it’s better to keep it natural, “Ang ginagawa namin sa set minsan, nag-iisip na rin kami ng mga baon naming jokes tapos doon namin ibabato mismo pag nagte-take na.”
Watch out for these jokes and punchlines in My Papa Pi, every Saturday starting March 19, at 7pm, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, and iWantTFC.
