Calling all romantics and ‘hugot’ experts! When it comes to happiness, will you go for love or money? We know making a choice is one of life’s worst scenarios even Coco Martin and Angelica Panganiban are bound to get so confused.
Coco and Angelica join forces in a romantic-comedy film titled “Love or Money” which, as the title suggests, tackles the conflict between their respective characters Leon and Angel forced to make crucial choices that will determine the course of their life and relationship. Angelica shared more about this exciting collaboration and lessons learned from the film in this edition of Kapamilya Chat.
Based on the trailer, Leon and Angel have different priorities. He sounds like the idealistic guy looking at love as the most priceless thing on earth. On the other hand, she’s a seemingly ambitious woman whose only motivation is a bright future.
Angelica didn’t encounter much challenge in playing Angel, saying she wasn’t too judging on her character. She understands her motives. She even enjoyed portraying the effervescent ‘raketera.’ For Angelica, life must be taken with a fearless attitude to enjoy it to the fullest but that would be easier said than done especially when swamped with financial problems.
“Kung wala ka namang issue sa pera at meron kang love, parang go lang nang go sa buhay. Sabi nga nila, hindi nabibili ang happiness pero kung meron kang pera makakabili ka ng gusto mo,” the actress weighed in.
The only adjustment was shifting from crying buckets in her last film “Unbreakable” to doing light rom-com. She asked for her director’s and co-actors’ help in unloading her emotions. Coming from the success of “Unbreakable” and with a reputation as a Box Office Queen, Angelica admitted the pressure of keeping it up since moviegoers now have changing tastes. Nonetheless, she opted to just focus on doing her best and forget about the records. It all boils down to faith in God, her abilities, and the people mounting the masterpiece.
Besides, the pressure is always a sign of unwavering passion, “Siguro ‘pag nawala ‘yung passion, ibig sabihin wala ka nang gana sa trabaho mo.”
Angelica is known for her energy, jokes, and ‘hugots’ while Coco is often seen sporting rigidity as the lead star of action-drama series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. But she said they jived well on the set because, surprisingly, Coco is just as ‘kwela’ off-cam, although she was also shy at first.
“Kwela siyang tao. Meron siyang kulit side. May pagkaloko-loko. ‘Yung takot ko na mag-jive kaya kami, nawala agad kasi nakita ko na kalog so kaya kong mahuli ang kiliti nito,” she said of Coco.
Angelica seemed to have downplayed her stature, saying playing Coco’s leading lady is an unexpected career milestone. She also learned that she was Coco’s only choice He was willing to back out had she rejected the offer.
“Medyo nakakalaki siya ng ulo sa umpisa. Hindi rin ako makapaniwala kaya siguro out of happiness and sobrang grateful na may isang Coco Martin na gusto akong makatrabaho. May isang luka-luka siyang gustong makatrabaho. Masaya sa feeling!”
Angelica added that her mom was a big fan of Coco, thus the Instagram post captioned, “Ma! May movie na ako with Coco Martin! Sikat na ako, Ma!” And if only possible, she knows her mother would’ve asked for a photo op with her new leading man.
A portion of “Love or Money” was filmed in Dubai pre-pandemic. Asked what she misses most about the normal taping setup, Angelica reminisced the times when they’re free to gather in groups, chat without face masks on, and work without the rush. On the brighter side, the lock-in bubble forges bond.
Angelica shared the lessons she collected from filming “Love or Money,” one of which is the transforming power of love. She added that not everyone is lucky enough to have both love and money, and that’s when decision-making becomes crucial. But at the end of the day, love is still the key to genuine happiness, “Ang tumayo kasi talaga sa akin doon ay ‘yung hindi ka magiging malungkot sa buhay basta nagmamahal ka at natatanggap mo ‘yung pagmamahal na ‘yun pabalik.
So when asked to take her pick, Angelica would wish to have both love and money. But perhaps based on her past romantic experiences, she’d want to feel luckier in love this time. After all, the money will come as long as you are diligent and hardworking, “’Yung pera andiyan lang ‘yan kikitain mo pero ang love kahit anong gawin mo, pwede ka pa rin saktan ng partner mo, hindi mo mako-control ‘yan. Hindi tulad ng pera, pwede kang magtipid. Sa love, medyo mahirap siyang ma-achieve sa akin so mas gusto ko ang love.”
Helmed by Mae Cruz-Alviar, “Love or Money” is now streaming on KTX.ph, iWantTFC, TFC On Demand, Cignal PPV, and Sky PPV.
