Perhaps many of us only know Alyssa Muhlach as an actress after seeing her in the Kapamilya teleseryes “Pamilya Ko” (2019) and “2 Good 2 Be True” (2022). But avid showbiz fans are probably not aware that she also has the voice, as well as the beauty and the brains, since she’s a singer and beauty queen, too.
Just in case you missed it, she was the Philippines’ representative to the Reina Hispanoamericana pageant in 2018 and has been showing off her singing prowess through the song covers that she uploaded on Instagram. And last July, her debut single “Paalam” under Tarsier Records was finally released, making her a certified recording artist now!
Following this amazing feat, ent.abs-cbn.com had the chance to catch up with Alyssa during a recent Kapamilya Chat episode wherein she passionately talked about her song and career, as well as enthusiastically played a few enjoyable games the team had prepared for her. Among them was the “Category Questions Challenge”, in which she had to respond to the questions on each card she had selected from the six decks that were placed in front of her. This allowed her to show off her beauty queen side.
The game commenced with Alyssa responding to the question, “What opportunity for love or money have you given up? Did you regret it now?”
For her, it would be her chance to earn earlier in life after she decided to start showbiz when she was already an adult to prioritize her studies first, as well as her growth as a person. Although she tried showbiz in the past before she turned 18, she had to stop so that she could finish college.
“I don’t regret it because I feel like it really helped me grow as a person and the reason why I have exposure to normal friends and I have more knowledge about life in general kasi hindi ako lumaki sa showbiz na buhay lang, even if I come from a showbiz family,” she said.
She may have missed out on her supposed years of experience in showbiz, yet it’s still one of the things that she’s very grateful for because she was able to gain unparalleled experience from her life out of the spotlight.
Meanwhile, if there’s one person who she likes to portray her once her life story is turned into a movie, it’s none other than her “2 Good 2 Be True” lead star Kathryn Bernardo. Not only is she one of her closest friends in the industry after being able to create a strong bond with her that went beyond the show, but she also believes that the Asia’s Superstar can definitely deliver an awesome performance regardless of the character since she’s a great actress.
Throughout our lives, we’ve probably encountered the question, “Good news or bad news?” a number of times everytime someone would relay information to us. While we usually have a hard time choosing, Alyssa said that she’s actually the type who opts to hear the good news first. She explained that it’s in order for her to celebrate the positive news first, even for a bit, prior to being spoiled by the negative stuff.
Given her apparent wisdom, eloquence, and confidence, it’s no wonder that the historical figure that the actress-singer would like to meet, if ever given the chance, is civil rights activist and author Maya Angelou. According to her, she finds Maya’s writings and speeches to be trulyempowering.
And lastly, when it comes to the most surprising self-realization she had, Alyssa related that it was discovering how strong she actually is – a trait she has developed through overcoming adversities in her life. One of them was her parents' separation, during which she had to take on the role of her younger sisters' second parent. Being the oldest child, she was aware that her mother and younger siblings had no one else to turn to but her, so she had no choice but to be strong.
“Kaya, sometimes, I also like it when you experience something that you feel like is your lowest [point] because there’s really no way but up,” she stated.
