In the past years, we’ve seen a lot of people – mostly females – who have tried pole dancing. From being merely a form of performance art that is a fusion of dance and acrobatics using a vertical pole, it has transformed into a fun hobby and a type of workout that many do to keep their physiques or for their other personal pursuits.
And in this Kapamilya Snaps feature, let’s meet the celebrities who you may not know actually have not-so-hidden talents in pole dancing.
Sarah Geronimo attends pole dancing classes
Aside from being a great singer and actress, Sarah has indeed evolved into a total performer, who never failed to astound us with her song and dance numbers in ASAP Natin ‘To and in her other live shows.
But little we did know that she also tried her hand in pole dancing, as what celebrity guru Ciara Sotto disclosed in her Magandang Buhay interview in 2016. According to her, she and celebrity dance choreographer Georcelle Dapat-Sy invited the Popstar Royalty for a pole dancing class, which Sarah enthusiastically attended. And for a first-timer, Ciara described her as a natural on the pole.
Alexa Ilacad got hooked on pole dancing to stay fit
In 2013, Alexa wowed her followers when she shared a photo while doing pole dancing routine. Based on her caption, she seemingly got hooked with it as her way of working out and challenging herself.
Alexa even showed off her moves in one of her guestings in the weekly late-night comedy talk show Gandang Gabi Vice in 2014.
Dawn Chang has been into contemporary dance, including pole
She may be dubbed “Ang Bombshell Baker ng Parañaque” of Pinoy Big Brother 737, but Dawn Chang is more remembered and admired by viewers for her exceptional dancing skills. Having a background in contemporary dance as a professional dancer, she has also tried pole dancing and even showed off some of her sultry moves while inside the famous yellow house.
Jessy Mendiola tried it first for an MMK role
She may have exhibited her dancing talent in her TV production numbers a few years ago, but Jessy only tried pole dancing in 2016, when she starred in a Maalaala Mo Kaya episode as professional pole dancer Christine Dy.
In an IG post, she expressed that this art form has helped improved her confidence about her body, not to mention that this is also a great workout.
Karylle took pole dancing lessons for a role in an international series
Karylle also had to learn pole dancing that year as a preparation for her role in the Asian television series titled “Private Investigator,” wherein she portrayed the main character Maya, a single mother working as a con artist.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, the It’s Showtime host imparted how pole dancing is all about being comfortable in your own body.
Cristine Reyes learned pole dancing for an episode of I Can do That
From her compelling portrayals in the teleseryes and movies she starred in, Cristine was also able to exhibit her other facets that we probably had not seen yet through her stint in the celebrity talent competition I Can Do That in 2017.
And in one of the episodes, she truly amazed us with how she’s able to immediately learn pole dancing in a just a short span of time and perform a steamy pole routine to the Aegis’ hit “Sinta”.
Anne Curtis tried aerial silk and pole dancing for a Magpasikat number
Those who have been watching It’s Showtime in the past 13 years would know that Anne goes all out whenever she performs, especially during the noontime program’s anniversary special.
It can be recalled that in Magpasikat 2011, she performed aerial silk and pole dance, and even belted out Adele’s “Someone Like You”, while she was clinging upside-down to the pole.
