As a young girl, Lea has always led a difficult life. She is the love child of a couple who had a forbidden romance. Her parents become separated from her as well as her brother Ronel and sister Fatima. Lea is sold as a servant to a horse stable and eventually becomes a resident of Girls' Town in Marikina City.

Lea finds comfort in her childhood friend Billy who becomes her protector. The heartthrob Ian (Ron Morales) also develops a crush on the young woman. When the street-smart Lea meets the well-educated Francis, their blossoming romance proves that opposites do attract.

This series also marked a milestone in the cast's respective careers – Kjwan vocalist and vj Marc Abaya made his acting debut as one of Roxanne's leading men Francis, a romantic, well-educated lad. Multi-awarded actor Sid Lucero played romantic lead Billy, Lea's childhood sweetheart. Manila Mayor Isko Moreno made a showbiz comeback then as Mon, a self-made man whose undying love for a woman continues to inspire him to do good. Coco Martin also made his Kapamilya debut as Ronel, Lea's brother.
