Being not only a global beauty pageant but also a celebration of inclusion, individuality, and cultural diversity, the Miss Universe competition has truly evolved through the years.
And one of the most awaited parades in the competition is the showcase of each candidate’s national costumes that were very impressive and incredibly mesmerizing.
Of course, our Filipina bets never let our country be left behind in this showdown as they have always lit up the stage with their own versions of our country’s varied ethnic wardrobes that left the world spellbound. From Gloria Diaz, the first-ever Miss Universe from the Philippines, to last year’s representative Catriona Gray, who amazingly took home the fourth crown for her beloved kababayans, the audiences couldn’t contain their awe and excitement as they witness them exhibit their national pride.
In this gallery, we could see how some of the memorable Filipina beauty queens presented the wonder of the Philippines either in an exquisite Filipiniana gown or in an avant-garde costume during their respective stints.
Aside from the elegance, poise, wit, charm, wisdom, and determination they exuded, the three other titlists Margie Moran-Floirendo, Pia Wurtzbach, and Catriona Gray also stunned us with their chosen attires, especially for the national costume portion.
Pia wore a white capiz terno gown designed by Albert Andrada paired with a studded headpiece and a stylish fan. Meanwhile, Catriona stayed true to her promise of bringing the whole nation with her to the contest by incorporating the culture and trademarks of various ethnic tribes and provinces across the archipelago.
The Miss Universe-Philippines bets who competed in the previous years sashayed in their elegant terno gowns of various style, design, and color, such as Maria Venus Raj (2010), Shamcey Supsup (2011), Janine Tugonon (2012), Ariella Arida (2013), and Mary Jean Lastimosa (2014).
On the other hand, Charlene Gonzalez (1994), Miriam Quiambao (1999), Maxine Medina (2016), and Rachel Peters (2017) all exerted extra effort in their costumes as they opted to veer away from the usual Filipiniana frocks.
This leaves us with great excitement about the national costume our current representative Gazini Ganados will wear in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant.
Catch and cheer Gazini as she vies for the 2019 Miss Universe title this coming December 9 at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, that will be also simultaneously broadcast on ABS-CBN.
