They pierced our hearts and stirred our souls with their compelling portrayals of selfless, affectionate, and hardworking mothers in the teleseryes they starred in. But these veteran and seasoned actresses further amaze and inspire us with how they impeccably take on their most important role in life – being dutiful and hands-on mom to their beloved children!
And as we celebrate Mother’s Day this coming May 10, let’s pay tribute to these inspiring and awesome celebrity mommies by taking a glimpse on how they are nailing motherhood in real life!
Sunshine Cruz
As she captivated us with her portrayals of a tough yet endearing mom in Wildflower as Camia Cruz and in Love Thy Woman as Kai, Sunshine is apparently the same when it comes to her tres marias Angelina, Samantha, and Franchesca.
After she called it quits with her ex-husband, Sunshine had to take the enormous responsibility of raising them singlehandedly. She admitted getting scared of it considering that she didn’t work then and only had meager amount of savings, but she was still able to amazingly confront it and continuously power through it. Aside from that, she also had to muster enough courage to protect them from anyone who would hurt and behave crudely towards them.
Since there’s only the four of them at present, the 42-year-old actress revealed that she’s able to establish a strong and open relationship with her children, and admitted meddling with their lives especially that they’re still minors and in their teenage years.
Jodi Sta. Maria
Fascinating us with her portrayals of palaban single mothers in the 2019 crime drama Sino Ang Maysala? Mea Culpa as Fina Baniaga and in the iWant original series “My Single Lady” as Chona San Miguel, Jodi is apparently the same in real life when it comes to her unico hijo Thirdy.
Despite her busyness with her work and other personal endeavours, the hardworking mom still makes sure to spend quality time with his 14-year-old son by doing various activities together and each other’s travel buddy in their trips here and abroad.
At the same time, the 37-year-old actress also makes sure to be still hands-on in attending to his needs, in taking good care of him, and in guiding him even with the way he plays online games with his friends.
Pokwang
In her 16 years in the local entertainment scene, Pokwang has not only enthralled us with her formidable comedic chops, but with her astounding dramatic acting prowess as well, which we’re able to witness in her portrayals in Kapamilya teleseryes. Her character Jessica may not be a mom in Make It With You, but it was to her to whom her nephew Gabo (Enrique Gil) speaks with and seeks advice about everything that happens in his life.
But before she’s able to bring laughter to us, many of us are aware that the comedienne-actress had gone through a lot of hardships in life, with the death of her firstborn due to congenital brain ailment as the most heart-breaking of all.
In her guesting in Magandang Buhay in 2016, she wasn’t able to hold back her emotions as she narrated that darkest episode in her life. She tearfully recalled not being able to take care of him in his last days and immediately fly back here for she was then working in Abu Dhabi and admitted almost taking her own life because of the extreme depression she felt.
However, she was reminded that she still has another child who’s relying on her – her first daughter Mae. As the baby daddy abandoned them, she had to raise her singlehandedly and earned a living by working as an entertainer in a comedy bar. With all the sacrifices and hard work she did, Mae has nothing but deep gratitude and appreciation to her beloved “super mom”.
And now that she has Malia, Pokwang’s life has gone brighter and merrier as she imparted to the momshies in her return to the morning program last year some of the priceless moments she and the whole family had with their adorable baby.
Beauty Gonzales
In the recent years, Beauty has indeed astounded us with how she compellingly portrayed the role of being a stern yet loving mom to teenage stars on-screen, such as in Pusong Ligaw (2017) as Teresa and in Kadenang Ginto (2018) as Romina. But in real life, she is actually a cool and awesome mommy to an adorable four-year-old girl named Olivia Iñez.
Attesting to her “coolness” as a mom was her message to her daughter during their appearance on the show in 2018.
“Mommy will always be here for you. I’ll always be your friend and I’ll be your partner-in-crime. When you’re 18, I’m still gonna be 35 or 40 so ingat ka, I’m gonna party with you. And I promise you to give you a beautiful life and we’ll travel the world together,” she enthused.
Cherry Pie Picache
Through the years, she’s indeed one of the most sought-after actresses to play maternal roles in a slew of Kapamilya dramas, with her appearances as Adele Magtibay in the The Blood Sisters (2018) and Joan Reyes in Sandugo (2019) as among the recent ones.
She may have been a doting mom to a number of children on-screen, but Cherry Pie only has one in her heart in real life – her beloved unico hijo Nio. In their guesting in Magandang Buhay in 2017, she revealed that her life indeed had a 180-degree turn when she gave birth to him. The veteran actress related that she was able to control herself from buying luxurious designer bags and going out with her friends in order to save for all their needs.
On the other hand, Nio also imparted that even though his Mama is strict, she never physically hurt him
Besides, the veteran actress has also been very supportive and proud of his career as a promising tennis player, as well as with his other endeavours and achievements, as seen in some of her posts online.
Zsa Zsa Padilla
We’ve seen her portray different characters both on television and film in her 33 years in the industry, but it’s arguably in her maternal roles to which we admire her the most. She might have been busy with her career as an actress and singer ever since, but Zsa Zsa has amazingly able to establish a strong and admirable bond with her tres marias Karylle, Nicole, and Zia.
In their interview in Magandang Buhay in 2017, her firstborn Karylle enthused how tech-savvy and millennial their Mama is for she’s apparently more updated with the latest trends than her and her two siblings. She would also always make herself available for them wherever she is and whatever she does.
October that year, the Divine Diva returned to the program and this time, with her bunso Zia. When asked to describe how she is as a momshie, the latter related that she’s attentive for she always make her presence felt by them by keeping in touch with them even though she’s busy at work.
Manilyn Reynes
Many of us surely loved her as the affectionate, supportive, and hardworking Mama Bear of Kathryn Bernardo’s Chichay in the well-loved 2013 romantic-comedy series Got To Believe, which had a rerun in the Kapamilya Gold block.
And she’s undoubtedly similar with her character Betchay in real life as seen in her posts on Instagram. While she’s busy with her career as an actress in the rival network, she’s amazingly able to juggle it with her most important role of being a mom to her three “bugoys” Kyle, Kirk, and Kael with husband and former actor Aljohn Jimenez. Obviously, their favorite bonding activity as a family is travelling for Manilyn’s IG page is filled with photos of their family trips, mostly abroad.
Carmina Villarroel
Others may despise her as Juliana, the stern and overprotective mother to Daniel Padilla’s Joaquin in Got To Believe, but Carmina is totally different from her in real life for she’s a certified cool and go-getter mom to her and Zoren Legaspi’s charming twins Mavy and Cassy.
In her exclusive interview with METRO.style last year, she revealed that she’s the type of mom who’s strict but can also get along with their kids pretty well. Amidst her busy schedule, she makes sure to still spend quality time with her family by allotting their Sundays as a non-negotiable “family day”.
"Family is very important. Basta, ang usapan namin ay weekends, especially Sundays, we really have to be together. Especially now that the kids have school and are also working and Zoren has a new show, we hardly see each other. So thank God for technology, we have a group chat with our schedule, bilin, reminders, all of that. 'Pag weekends, it's really our rest day as a family—non-negotiable," Carmina imparted.
As they’re able to establish a tight-knit relationship and have been omnipresent in their lives growing up, the kids, according to her, have grown very much open to them and being admired by other people because of being nice and respectful. They also inculcated to them the value of professionalism and being responsible in everything that they do.
Precious Lara Quigaman
Ever since she started her acting career in 2006, we’ve seen her portray a lot of maternal roles, such as the tough yet doting Selda Sta. Maria in May Bukas Pa, which had a rerun in the Primetime Bida block, and the scheming and deranged Alice Dela Torre in The Killer Bride.
But Lara only became a real mom in 2013, when she gave birth to her and husband Marco Alcaraz’s firstborn Noah Lamar more than a year after tying the knot. And five years after, their second baby boy Tobias Nolan was born.
Not much is written about the beauty queen’s parenting style, but basing on her interview in Magandang Buhay last year, we can say that she’s the type of mom who can be both cool and strict at the same time, especially when it comes to feeding her kids and in obeying their house rules.
Judy Ann Santos
From impressing as an adorable child star and captivating us as a versatile leading lady in the movies and teleseryes she starred in through the years, Judy Ann is now inspiring us as a hands-on matriarch to her husband Ryan Agoncillo and their three kids Yohan, Lucho, and Luna.
In her appearances in Magandang Buhay, we’re able to discover that she’s the disciplinarian and affectionate type of mom who makes sure that she’s able to make them obey her and their dad without having to physically hurt her. She never failed to check on them, remind them that she’s always willing to listen to them, and to give them words of encouragement.
Meanwhile, in her conversation with the King of Talk on Tonight With Boy Abunda in 2018, she disclosed that she and Ryan are able to establish a tight bond with their kids by having individual dates with them, which are their opportunity to talk with each one of them.
Coney Reyes
She may be feared and abhorred for being the apathetic and domineering Anna Manalastas in the 2011 series 100 Days To Heaven, but Coney is totally different in real life. She’s actually doting to her three good and accomplished kids Laurence Anthony (or LA) and Carla Mumar, and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.
In 2017, she and her two beloved sons appeared on Magandang Buhay wherein it was revealed that the way she portrays her characters on-screen already gives a hint to how she is as a mother to them for it mirrors how she scolds and loves them in real life. Besides, she can be dramatic and used to be strict towards them, especially to her firstborn LA, and has been very much supportive of their endeavors ever since they were young.
Dawn Zulueta
Playing a mom to grown-up characters in the teleseryes and movies she starred in, such as in Walang Hanggan wherein she plays Emily, the mom of Coco Martin’s Daniel, Dawn’s kids with politician Anton Lagdameo in real life are actually just in their teenage and pre-adolescent years. Their firstborn Jacobo, whom they waited for seven years, is 14 while their second child Ayisha is 10.
As she juggles her flourishing showbiz career with her duties as wife and mom to her family, the momshies couldn’t help but ask not only about the secret behind her ageless beauty, but being able to do her two passions as well, during her guesting in 2016. And according to her, it’s just a matter of maintaining a balanced life and having the all-out support of her husband.
Furthermore, she also revealed that since both her and Anton are firstborns, they are both authoritarians as well when it comes to raising their kids.
Were you able to able to relate or learn something from these amazing celebrity moms? Happy Mother’s Day, Kapamilya!
