It is said that no matter how old you get, you’ll always be a kid at heart. And it’s actually true for some people, including some of our favorite Kapamilya stars who have found joy in collecting toys.
Aside from fulfilling their sworn duty of “making madlang people happy”, Vhong Navarro has found joy in collecting Bearbrick toys, which are little bear-shaped brick toys that are representations of popular cartoon and movie characters, such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Wars, Toy Story, and others. His collection, which he buys from Japan, has grown to more than a hundred pieces now. Apart from being a mere hobby, the It’s Showtime host has considered this as his outlet ever since his father got ill and eventually passed away.
Vhong also collects Funko Pops of the most iconic roles he has portrayed throughout his career. He has Mr. Suave, Agent X44, Lastikman, Gagamboy, and Mang Kepweng.
Jed Madela showed his toy room or his “Funko room” in his house tour for Star Magic’s YouTube channel. It was called as such because most of his toys came from Funko, a store which sells unique pop culture collectibles. Found in his room is an entire wall full of Funko Disney characters, which includes the “Aladdin line” that is composed of Aladdin characters.
The male belter also has a collection of Funko Pop TV series characters like the ones in Modern “Family,” “Friends,” and “Riverdale” and of horror characters and music icons. And by the way, he has his own Funko pop toy, too, that was crafted based on his album “Superhero”!
Child-at-heart and singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid has a massive vintage toy collection, too! One of the most expensive action figures he has is a mint condition 1979 R2-D2 worth $5,000. But in case you didn’t know, the veteran musician has already let go of his toy collection that he built for more than two decades by selling them online to raise funds for free COVID-19 mass testing kits last May. He donated pieces from his collection, which included Daimos and Star Wars action figures and toy cars, to Angel Locsin and Anne Curtis’ fund-raising project “Shop and Share”.
Nyoy Volante has been collecting toys most of his life. He has action figures of everything, from Toy Story to Ghost Busters to the NBA. The King of Philippine Acoustic Pop organizes displays his collection on shelves that are meticulously organized. He has a section for all of his Marvel pieces, a separate space for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, among many others.
Fans of Gerald Anderson probably know that the actor is a huge Iron Man fan. In fact, he even dressed up as the Marvel superhero for one Halloween and has an Iron Man-inspired jersey! Thus, it’s no surprise that he has an Iron Man collection that includes action figures, life-size statues, apparel, and full-size costumes. The A Soldier’s Heart star also had his own fanboy moment when he saw in person Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr., during the grand fan meeting of the “Avengers: Endgame” stars in Seoul, Korea last year.
Sheryn Regis loves fashion which is why she easily fell in love with dolls. She specifically stays updated on Barbie’s collaborations with famous designers like Bob Mackie. The singer has over 100 dolls in her Quezon City home and hundreds more in Cebu City and the United States. This collection includes rare and vintage items. So, it is no surprise that she can spot fake Barbies just by looking at them.
So, whose toy collection you’re yearning to see in person or dreaming to have?
